this piece is coming to LIFE a week from from today at SHE: Festival of Women in Music @she_uark It’s scored for solo voice and pedals, with text by American modernist poet, Hilda Doolittle. This whirlwind of a work will be presented in dialogue with Rebecca Saunders’ “O” for solo soprano, whose text is by another modernist: James Joyce. If you happen to be in Arkansas and want to start off your Saturday with some fun sounds: we’ll be performing and talking about these works at 9am 🙈 and we can’t wait to hear all the other noise being made during this 3-day extravaganza in Fayetteville, AR!

Swipe for fun sounds. Read for fun news. Joanna from the NYC-based ÆON ensemble and Hannah from Chicago-rooted rhythm is image have been cooking up a much-awaited collaboration and it’s finally happening… in a city neither have them have ever visited in a state far from each noisemaker’s home. What’s on the menu: - plosives - sibilants - in fact, all sorts of phonemes - how women musically adapt texts by women - how women musically adapt texts by men…about women - general pondering upon literary feminisms - additional ponderings about intention, and intuition and how they intersect with conscious decision-making (and how we *remember* that decision-making) Sounds heady? Don’t worry, there’s some goofiness in there too. Details soooon but if you’re hungry, save the date: Saturday, March 2, University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. a lil duet moment between @lyerany on cello and @walking_singing on piano hop into our time machine and let’s go back to January 2021 at @stjvny when we premiered Asia Mieleszko’s arrangement of this bewitching Ukrainian carol (or колядка) «грай море» (hray more) with @ukrainianvillagevoices with the generosity of @razom.for.ukraine for whom this show doubled as a fundraiser we had no live audience for this show, because, well don’t you remember what January 2021 was like!? and we tested vigorously every day, praying we weren’t endangering ourselves by piecing together this transformative concert weird times, lovely memories

who remembers 👀 this is a scene from our 2019 Halloween party wherein we, in collaboration with the brilliant @vjfuzzybastard , took the works of David Lynch, remixed and retrofitted them into an entirely new nightmare, and then live-scored that nightmare 😎 we've been dying to bring this show back, maybe 2024 will be our year?

one of my favorite polish kolędy, in a juicy arrangement by the late (but nevertheless great) Polish choral composer, Norbert Blacha almost exactly 2 years ago during peak pandemic pandemonium, I was (stupidly, somewhat regrettably) inspired to organize a ton of concerts. Some rocked; others were (way) more torturous than they were rewarding. This is one of those, that despite many odds, rocked. And it was one of the first times I was able to present an all-Polish choral-centric program with brilliant professional musicians. I still have ambitions of programming Górecki’s larger choral works alongside those of Łukaszewski, Bacewicz, Lutoslawski, Zubel, and others. Don’t know when or how that would happen but at least I can look warmly upon this first attempt ‘til then ❤️ you can listen to this entire song on YouTube: ÆON Ensemble — Lulajże Jezuniu and finally, thank you to @stjvny for hosting ❤️ hope to be back soon #kolędy #święta #polishcarols #polishmusic #christmascarol

one more moment from our U.S. premiere of Pētēris Vasks emotional rollercoaster of a cello concerto! by ✨popular request ✨we’ll be uploading the FULL concerto to YouTube sometime in September — subscribe so that you don’t miss when it drops. We recommend listening to it while: - you’re drafting a passive aggressive email to your manager that will 92% begin with, “as per my last email..” - cooking up something that’ll make your neighbors jealous - road-tripping - cleaning your room (trust us, suddenly dusting will feel epic) So, go type in AEON ensemble into YouTube, hit subscribe, go about your day, and we can’t wait for you to see this whole piece. We've been taking it slow this season but that doesn't mean we don't have exciting things planned for you! 😎😎😎 “Good things come to those who wait" -- said someone at some point in time In the meantime, consider supporting our grassroots ambitions, our collaborations, and our mission of putting underrepresented repertoire front and center by donating. You can give just $3 monthly (cheaper than a coffee nowadays!) or a one-time donation of whatever amount you see fit. It can be $50. It can be $5. Any amount means the world to us and helps us make sure these concerts and career-establishing collaborations are possible. Visit the support page on our website to make a tax deductible donation of aaaany amount: /support Here are some snapshots from our latest concert, where we premiered Gilbert Galindo's "Nada te Turbe" 📸: @mdrkcity 😎😎😎 (P.S. if you donated during our winter fundraising campaign -- your goody bags are on the way! We apologize for the major mail and personal delays but trust us -- well worth the wait. You'll be getting your fun art soon.) a scene from last night’s rehearsal 👀 this is the tail end of Movement 4, “The Great Mystery” in @galindomusix “Nada te Turbe” if you think this sounds cool, wait til you hear the words! the text of this movement comes from Chief Luther Standing Bear, a pivotal turn-of-the-century figure in Indigenous Sicangu and Oglala Lakota representation and activism. it’s our absolute honor to convey these powerful words and ideas. We hope you can come out and bear witness! March 6, 4:30 PM. All the deets in the bio ✨ ___ #newmusicusa #americanmusic #indigenousrights #composersofinstagram #contemporarycreatives #operasingersofinstagram #chambermusic #nyccreatives
