Mark your calendars for next Saturday, April 27th, as the Adverse Effects collective makes its return, fueled by the energy from our gathering just a month ago. With spring in full swing, let’s continue riding the wave of rejuvenation that life brings, immersed in the excitement of avant-garde electronic music. With that being said, let’s welcome the lineup for next Saturday:
Akua (
@akua_b_ ), a Ghanaian-American artist from Brooklyn, blends her DJ and production skills with a passion for music, viewing it not just as a tool for dance but for self-discovery, community, and boundless knowledge. Influenced by 90s midwest techno, the unity of dance, and the speed of life, Akua has reshaped NYC’s techno scene with her dynamic sets and mixing. Her dedication to unconventional techno mirrors the chaos of the present while honoring DJ experimentation from the past. Mixing old and new sounds, she creates a signature style of high-energy rhythms that evoke the timelessness and empowerment of rave culture, highlighting themes of time, perspective, and black futurism.
Scim (
@scim.ry ) is a multidisciplinary artist and programmer, specializing in sound design and composition. Since 2015, they have released genre-bending music on several labels, including TAR (LA), HEEL (Italy), 400M (Chicago), and formforum (Richmond), among others. Additionally, they have launched their own cassette label, Auralith, which serves as a study on the mutation of time. As a newcomer to Philadelphia, they have been DJing at raves, performing improvised noise sets across the country, and collaborating with fellow artists. Expect the unexpected on Saturday, April 27th.
As you guys know, our crew always strives to bring something interesting, genre-bending, and just plain unusual and unexpected to Philly. We’ve longed to bring you these two artists together, and we believe this time of year is perfect for such a special event.
