My Dad, Eddie, passed away in March, after battling lymphoma for a year. As some of you know, my last album Olympia-5 was written for him while he was in hospital. It probably helped me more than him, as it was a way of processing thoughts and feelings. I’ve had the good fortune to put together a show for @nts_radio , looking at how other artists and composers have also approached grief, loss, illness and mortality through their music. Thank you to everyone who sent through suggestions - so many great pieces to listen to - and also a massive thank you to @phambinho for inviting me to join his show. You can tune in at midday tomorrow May 12. Link in bio.

Whawell. This year’s residents join us from Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Poland and across the UK, bringing practices that span experimental filmmaking, music composition, dance, performance, poetry, curation and visual art. The residencies will take place between May 2026 and March 2027 across two locations: Sweeney’s Bothy, Isle of Eigg and @Grinneabhat , a community-owned cultural space on the Isle of Lewis. We’re delighted to be working with Grinneabhat for the first time and to be exploring ways of developing our working partnership further. The residents were selected by a panel made up of Anne Campbell, Arun Sood and Sarah Calmus. Our Self-Directed Creative Residencies last one week and are a self-funded route for practitioners in visual arts, craft & design, music, literature, performance with at least three years of active practice, and who are based in the UK or Europe. I’m excited to share the film for ‘Model House’, made by Kiran Acharya @whoismrbishop . When I reached out to the filmmakers I asked if they had anything pre-existing in their hard drives that hadn’t found the right home yet. Kiran said he’d prefer to make something truly bespoke… something that would marry the music and visuals. Before Kiran sent me the first draft he said there was a mysterious package awaiting, which turned out to be a print of the mantelpiece in his home, covered with a beautiful photo of his partner and child, with “welcome to the world” cards and a toy Pikachu in the foreground. At the bottom was a little QR code, which lead me to an app where I could watch the entire film pointing my phone at the print. It was a beautiful moment - there was something powerful about having a physical object to experience the film through, a tactile connection I could feel between Kiran, the print, the film and myself. Watch the full film via link in bio. From Kiran: “How do we keep our conversations between ourselves? In both senses - how do we share private things amongst ourselves? And how do we protect the gentle flame of our expressions from the wind of the world? Model House, in its grace and composition, asks these questions and more. How do we share a conversation with a child over time? The film, made in immediate and unfettered response to the music, is a vulnerable and personal offering that transposes the themes of Olympia-5 to my life at present, which has involved marriage, and movement between the U.K, Northern Ireland, and the mountains of remote and rural Scandinavia. In that time we have welcomed our child into the world. Model House makes what was once private public: the strands and ribbons of feeling that encircle families old and new. The feeling that we tend to simply call love. Model House is but a breath, a small part of that conversation, but it is an exchange of love, a way of speaking without speaking. Model House is a way of speaking across the distance between countries, or between parents and children. A consolation and collaboration born of hope - hope across distance and across the span of a lifetime itself.”

Friends in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I’ll be launching my new album ‘Olympia-5’ @pianodrome on Saturday February 21st. This will be my first time performing live as Drexler and I’m so excited to be playing at Pianodrome’s new location in Bruntsfield. The Pianodrome 🎹 is an organisation that believes no piano should end up in landfill. It’s stage is the world’s first amphitheatre made entirely of upcycled pianos and they also host workshops on repairing pianos, have an adopt a piano service amongst other really interesting things. I also sampled one of their art installations for a film called Happy Palace back when they were located the Ocean Terminal shopping mall, so it feels fitting that I’m launching my piano album there. The night will be a hybrid of live performance and film screenings, where I get to show you all the incredible films that have been made to accompany some of the compositions. Tell your neighbour, tell a friend. Tickets via link in bio. ✌️ Pic 1 📷: @tobyshain

Here is the accompanying film for my latest @drexler.music single ‘Prague’. Directed by the amazing @hannahpapacekharper , this film was made on a recent trip to NY. Before this trip, Hannah and I had many chats about family, about the themes of the album and about living far from home… even the idea home itself. Hannah then asked me to leave it with her, later sending me this beautiful film which takes ideas from the record whilst being its own individual thing. I love how music, especially instrumental music, can do that and be interpreted in many different ways. For me, Prague looks back on a holiday I went on with Dad in 2024. It was a really memorable holiday, especially as we had never been on holiday together as adults. The city itself was so stunning and not too big for us to explore. On the other hand, Dad was already showing symptoms from his lymphoma returning. It’d mean the world to me if you can take 5 minutes out of your day to watch the film. I’d love to hear what you think. 🙏
