⌘ Issue 13: Ornament is now live! ⌘ Thank you to all who joined us in celebrating the launch of this very special issue. We loved seeing everyone decorate their own print with beads! In creating Issue 13, we hope to challenge readers to remember, single out, spotlight what adorns our lives, our thoughts, and the experiences we love/hate. We challenge you to challenge functionality and the ostensibly endless cycle of production-consumption-production. We challenge you to sit, read, and re-read these pieces. Finally we ask, as we have all asked ourselves at Adjacent, What is your ornament? ⌘ Join us for the launch of Adjacent Issue #13 — Ornament ⌘ As we approach the end of the semester, we’re excited to announce the launch of Issue #13! Come meet the contributors, editors, and designers, and flip through the print copy in person. 📍 370 Jay St, 4th Floor 🗓 Thursday, April 23 🕕 6:00–8:00 PM While Adjacent has mostly lived online, this edition comes with a limited physical run alongside a beading workshop where you can ornament your own print and take it home. Feel free to drop by at any time during the event. We’d love to see you there! Food and drinks will be provided. Non-NYU guests must register through the link in bio!

୨୧ 𝐼𝓈𝓈𝓊𝑒𝟣𝟥 𝒪𝓇𝓃𝒶𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉: 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓂𝑒 𝒾𝓃𝓉𝓇𝑜𝒹𝓊𝒸𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃 ୨୧ To call something ornamental is to decide it doesn’t matter. This issue is interested in that decision, in what gets dismissed as decorative and what that dismissal conceals about the value we’ve quietly built into the objects around us. Object fetishism doesn’t just inflate the worth of commodities. It makes the inflation invisible, so thoroughly naturalized that the projected meaning feels inherent. Ornament operates the same way. The ritual object, the inherited symbol, the carved detail nobody looks up to see: these are not useless. They are load-bearing, hiding behind our assumption of their own superfluity.
