The alternative would be to machine a near net master out of foam, seal and finish it, layup fiberglass, attach a fiberglass egg crate structure and final machine to tolerance. That's a lot of time and labor to do all of that.
We directly 3D print the tool itself and then finish machine. No wasting foam masters and completed in half the time. ⏰

Large Format Additive Manufacturing (LFAM) goes beyond tooling & molding applications as we print a 20ft long AUV (autonomous underwater vehicle) that can go a mile beneath the oceans' surface.
This is a very important moment for the LFAM industry as we showcase the viability of large thermoplastic prints as end-use parts.
Our customer, Dive Technologies, is able to take advantage of utilizing LFAM technology to provide customized solutions for their customers without being locked in to a singular design and mold set. Is one requirement to make the AUV 3ft longer? No problem. Does a customer need their AUV to be 1ft wider in diameter? We can make that change without the need for tooling and do so in a timely manner.
