Minority Report (2002), based on the 1956 Philip K. Dick short story, imagines a 2054 America in which crimes are prevented before they can occur. “Precogs,” the fragile soothsayers behind the success of PreCrime, possess precognitive abilities as a side effect of a government-run eugenics and rehabilitation program that treated children for prenatal drug exposure. Their visions are memorialized in spheres carved of wood, each engraved with the names of victims and perpetrators.
