I recently traveled to Jimma, Sekoru Woreda for a project with @unmigration to document people with powerful stories. In this assignment I had learned the impact migration has in the local community,
I met Rosa and Hassia in Jimma ,Sekoru local community, where they shared their perspective on the
future their hometown can provide. The idea of migration had once seemed like a distant option to
these two girls, but seeing their elders work hard and make a better life for themselves has changed
their outlook.
I recently traveled to Jimma, Sekoru Woreda for a project with @unmigration to document people with powerful stories. In this assignment I had learned the impact migration has in the local community, I met Saliha Abatemam had contemplated leaving the country and even obtained a passport. However, her
plans were halted when her visa expired during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this setback, Saliha
Abatemam remained determined and resilient. She sought alternative opportunities within her own
community.
During our conversation with Saliha Abatemam, she shared that she joined a cooperative and found
employment here. She sees a bright future
ahead with her chicken business and is determined to work hard to improve her own circumstances.
Saliha Abatemam has decided to stay in Ethiopia and channel her efforts towards personal growth and
success.
