At the Youth Music Awards, Jordan Stephens of Rizzle Kicks made a bold commitment during his acceptance speech—he vowed to get the awards’ message, “Rescue the Roots,” tattooed to raise awareness for the charity’s cause. To capture this moment, we headed to Cloak and Dagger Tattoo parlour. A huge thank you to everyone who played a part in bringing this project to life. The passion and goodwill behind it took it beyond just a statement—it became a movement. As Jordan so perfectly put it: “Creativity is a human necessity. It’s essential. I can’t believe that the creative arts are underfunded by the government. The Mortuary. DI Ray S2. We used a blend of urban sodium lighting, pushed in through the exterior windows, and fluorescents overhead, subtly tinted green. For most of the nighttime scenes, this created a distinct orange wash, inspired by the ever-present glow we noticed while scouting Birmingham. Director @nirpalb and I were drawn to this look and wanted to reflect it authentically on screen. We’re also big fans of setting a clear “rule” for lighting to maintain a consistent visual language throughout the shoot. Here are some additional frames from 'The Tide.' This one's for the nerds… I'm still amazed at how well the Venice handles low light. Without the Dual ISO retaining as much dynamic range as it does, we wouldn't have been able to capture the shot in the last frame as clearly as we did.
