Three days in Reims. Three days to unplug the eyes. We just performed The Sutherland Test on April 28, 29 and 30 at the Comédie - CDN de Reims, as part of INTERCAL. Six public shows. Six for schools. And each time, that strange moment when sixteen people agree to let themselves be blinded together to rediscover a world they thought they knew. At a time when we're being sold glasses to "augment reality," we propose the opposite. A protocol of sensory disobedience. Obsolete VR headsets repurposed as instruments of attention. A step sideways to reinvent the collective through a shared experience of doubt, loss, and fiction. Thanks to Chloé Dabert and the entire Comédie team for the trust. “Intervalli. Spazi e tempi del transito” è stato un percorso nato dal desiderio di sperimentare insieme nuovi modi di concepire il transito, lo spazio e la memoria. All’interno di questa residenza ha preso forma l’opera “Threshold protocol”, a cura di @adelinschweitzer in collaborazione con @cultina.artlab - un’installazione che trasforma il transito in esperienza sensoriale: il corridoio reagisce ai movimenti con riflessi, suoni e vibrazioni, e ogni gesto del corpo ridisegna temporaneamente lo spazio, lasciandone traccia. Grazie a @fiammettapani per per lo sguardo attento e sensibile con cui ha documentato il percorso, a @ilariapisanu per la direzione curatoriale che ha dato forma al percorso, ai professionisti della parte tecnica @giorgiodeplano , Giorgio e Riccardo per la produzione e la messa in opera dei lavori. Threshold Protocol is a prototype of a screenless immersive installation, a sensorial exploration that shifts the image beyond the frame to inhabit the body and the surrounding space. First presented at @campidarte , the work questions our relationship with interfaces and the subtle boundary between the physical and the digital. Conceived as a rite of passage, the piece invites participants to cross a threshold where light, sound, and material become stimuli transforming into tangible presence. Within this sensitive environment, the audience is immersed in a world that is felt rather than observed. Deprived of familiar visual anchors, the visitor must engage the body: listening, touching, moving to sense the space and construct a personal narrative. Technology recedes, giving way to direct perception, turning the body itself into the living interface. Threshold Protocol proposes another way of inhabiting the digital: a palpable territory where the immaterial takes form, and where each human presence reshapes the experience. An invitation to rethink immersion beyond the screen at the precise point where perception begins.

The XR dreams of being a space for artistic and sensory experiences, but it is already shifting towards other uses: military simulation, drone piloting, strategic data gathering. My editorial in HACNUMedia, “Immersive dreams or autonomous drones?”, reveals this worrying shift, where artists are becoming content producers for the defense industry.
