SPRING RELEASE TUESDAYS starting January 13 no class March 24 10-11:30a @stompinggroundla $15/class 5 for $50 Please register in advance actsofmatter.com/class ABOUT THE CLASS Open Company Class // Significantly informed by both Release and Laban/Bartenieff techniques, the class encourages investigation, problem solving, and versatility. Release technique is a method of movement discovery in which the superficial musculature of the body gives way to essential skeletal mechanisms, ultimately revealing greater dimension throughout the body. Class work will be grounded in the principle that self-exploration is the dancer’s most effective tool of development and is essential to finding authenticity of movement. While designed for intermediate to advanced movers, beginning movers with a deep curiosity are also encouraged to attend. MORE INFO ABOUT REBECCA LEMME Rebecca Lemme is a choreographer, performer, educator, visual artist, and also the Founder and Artistic Director of the performance group Acts of Matter. Thematically and physically, Acts of Matter engages with work grounded in an unfettered willingness to attempt something while accepting the possibility of its failure. This physical exertion—this act of trying—is the core of humanity in the work. Rebecca’s choreographic work has been commissioned for numerous universities and professional companies, and she teaches extensively in contemporary, ballet, and improvisation. She has created a unique movement style for the stage and the classroom that encourages investigation, problem solving, and versatility. A Professor at California State University, Long Beach and formerly a full-time faculty member at CalArts, Rebecca holds a degree from Princeton University in English and Theater and California Institute of the Arts in Choreography. I will remember it this way. My first home. A respite from the rest of the world. A place of community and sharing. I am SO GRATEFUL to have hosted FĂȘte there last year. I will cherish these memories always. My home burned down in the Eaton Fire last night. I was able to drive by today and saw the ashes. It was difficult, but I’ll be ok. I am safe. Kit is safe. I have so many people who are already looking after me. Thank you to you all. I appreciate everyone reaching out. I can’t get back to all of you right now, but it means a lot. I love you. New beginnings are ahead.

Dear friends and community 💛 As you may know, my dear collaborator Serena and I have been working on putting together CMIX. The Claremont Movement Improv Exchange. We’re so excited to take on this endeavor, especially amidst everything happening in the world right now. For me personally, this project feels deeply meaningful. As someone coming from Iran and not always having had access to inclusive dance spaces, I feel really called to put my energy into creating something tangible: a space where people can move, connect, and feel a sense of belonging. This is my way of channeling energy into something rooted in care, community, and creativity. I would truly love for you to join us đŸ«¶

VERONICA DESOYZA + FOCUSED STUDY June 26-28 | Los Angeles THREE WEEKS left for EARLY BIRD. Join us for three days of cultivation, community, and connection. ANNOUNCING our FS11 FACILITATORS Veronica deSoyza | SOUL: Yoga* + BODYWORK: Massage *available for drop in Veronica is a founding facilitator with Focused Study, and we are so excited to have her back offering both yoga and massage sessions. Becca has been taking her class consistently since 2016 and is ecstatic for others to experience her magic. From VERONICA: I discovered Yoga while honing a career in the performing arts. My practice started off as just another way to move my body through space. I was obsessed with movement. Dancing gave me so much joy for so many years and here was one more way to find ecstatic movement on a daily basis. It wasn’t until years later I discovered what a vital role Yoga was playing in my mental and spiritual health and evolution. Yoga became my church. It was where I went to find peace of mind, to seek higher purpose, and to connect deeply with community. Yoga has helped me live truthfully with passion and compassion. With yoga as my foundation, I was able to successfully launch my career as a dancer, singer, and aerialist. There is no greater path for me now than to share my joy and success with others. I believe that yoga is our way back to community. It is our way back to understanding, our connection to all life around us, way beyond our physical realm. It’s a way of knowing who we are, discovering our full potential, and understanding the power we hold to heal ourselves and our world. VERONICA DESOYZA (she/her) is an E-RYT and an LMT. She is a former ballerina and Broadway dancer/singer/aerialist. She has been practicing Yoga for over 20 yrs and teaching for 18. Her certifications include Kundalini, Vinyasa, and AIReal Yoga. She has led Kirtan workshops and teacher trainings in Vinyasa and AIReal Yoga. She has been inspired by teachers such as Brian Kest, Seane Corn, Ira Rosen (Govindas), Baron Baptiste, BKS Iyengar, and Lea Kraemer.
