“Within the next year, over 2 million people are going to be diagnosed with cancer [in the United States]. Getting more support for a cure or more treatment is a priority.” For our April Volunteer Spotlight, we're thrilled to highlight Bradley Ryckman with @acscanmichigan ! As a two-time cancer survivor, Bradley recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend One Voice Against Cancer Lobby Day and urge Congress to strengthen federal investments in cancer research and prevention. Before advocating with ACS CAN, Bradley was a volunteer with @americancancersociety 's @relayforlife . Watch Bradley's story to learn more about his journey and why he advocates on behalf of cancer patients and survivors. #CancerAdvocacy #CancerStories #CancerResearch #CancerPrevention #CancerPatients #CancerSurvivors

New name, same incredible weekend ❤️ Our Spring Leadership Summit may have rebranded and expanded, but what hasn’t changed is the electric energy of our volunteer leadership! Over the last three days in Portland, Oregon, they gathered, networked, celebrated our collective wins, and planned for the road ahead. Friday included a warm welcome and some fun surprises—including a surprise guest, Caesar—and a chance for folks to get to know one another. On Saturday, we celebrated all that ACS CAN states have accomplished in the last year and spent time in general sessions and breakouts learning about important advocacy concepts such as leadership fundamentals, how allyship powers policy change, and our federal advocacy priorities. We’d especially like to thank our guest speakers from powerful organizations like @blackvotersmtr , @thecancernetwork , @mifamiliavota , @iconicocampaigns and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. And we closed out Sunday with more sessions and breakouts, plus a chance for volunteers to connect on a peer-to-peer level. Thank you to our volunteers for taking the time to be here this weekend and continuing the fight to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. We could not do this important work without you!

Lights of Hope is more than just an event; it’s a cross-country movement. From February to September, ACS CAN volunteers work to raise funds to fuel our mission to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. Each of the 85,000+ Lights of Hope is in honor or memory of someone impacted by cancer, raising over $900,000 for the fight against cancer. Reshare this video and add it to your Stories to help spread the beauty of Lights of Hope 💛 #LightsOfHope #CancerStories #CancerAdvocacy

Cancer patients can’t afford to stand still. Released on Friday, the President’s new budget proposal calls for cuts to medical research funding. It falls far short of what patients need and would lead to missed opportunities for cancer breakthroughs. We’ve been here before. Last year, a worse proposal threatened cancer research, but cancer advocates like you spoke out. Together, you contacted members of Congress more than 129,000 times urging them to reject cuts and increase cancer research funding. And they listened! We need you to make your voice heard again. This proposal is disappointing, but it’s far from final. Please click the link in our bio to send a message to your lawmakers today urging them to continue to move forward and invest in cancer research.

Your vote in November can help save lives from cancer. The people we elect make big decisions about cancer. They vote on things like how much funding goes to cancer research, who can afford and access care, and more. These choices affect millions of lives. That’s why our work as cancer advocates needs to start with elections, before candidates take office and make these decisions. Cancer Votes is your chance to take part in this year’s elections in a simple, nonpartisan way, and to help make cancer a priority for lawmakers in Congress and in your community. It brings people together to speak up, raise awareness, and push for change. It’s important, impactful work, and it’s a great chance to stand together for something bigger. While teams battle in the Sweet Sixteen this week, the Affordable Care Act is celebrating its own. 16 years ago, the ACA was signed into law, making health coverage available to millions of people across the country. The law also included hundreds of patient protections to ensure people could access comprehensive coverage, including cancer prevention, treatment and follow-up care. But rising health care costs and the expiration of the enhanced health care tax credits at the end of 2025 have caused health insurance premiums to spike. Many people can no longer afford their plans, jeopardizing their health coverage—including lifesaving cancer screening and treatment. We’re urging lawmakers across the country at the local, state, and federal levels to prioritize access to comprehensive, affordable health care. #AffordableCareAct #ACA #HealthCare #HealthInsurance #PublicHealth #TaxCredits #CancerAdvocacy #SweetSixteen

For our February Volunteer Spotlight, we're thrilled to recognize two outstanding volunteers, Flecia Brown and Bonita Sherman from @acscan_georgia and @acscanvirginia respectively. This year, Flecia and Bonita are serving as co-chairs of the Black Volunteer Caucus (BVC), one of ACS CAN’s six volunteer affinity groups. As breast cancer survivors, Flecia and Bonita have used their experiences to fuel their advocacy work with ACS CAN—from working on engaging candidates through Cancer Votes to sharing the importance of cancer advocacy at @americancancersociety Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events. Flecia and Bonita are both excited to take on leading the BVC. We know their leadership will help grow the group’s impact and help us work towards closing health disparity gaps in the Black community. #BlackHistoryMonth #CancerAdvocacy #HealthEquity

Moments ago, Congress passed the most impactful cancer-fighting bill in years. It happened thanks to cancer advocates like you who refused to back down!   Together, you sent more than 120,000 messages, made phone calls, and took to social media to urge lawmakers to reject cuts and invest in cancer research. They heard you, and they did.      Your advocacy made a difference. By passing this bill, Congress has:       • Increased funding for cancer research • Expanded cancer prevention and screening programs • Laid the groundwork for Medicare to cover cutting-edge multi-cancer early detection screenings once FDA approved and clinical benefit is shown • Strengthened programs focused on childhood cancer This bill becoming law means more people can be screened for cancer earlier, get treatment sooner, and have a better chance to survive and thrive.  Thank you for everything you do. ❤️ #CancerResearch #EarlyDetection #MCEDAct #CancerPatients #CancerSurvivors #CancerPrevention #CancerAdvocacy #Cancer
