Featured in @bazaarindia along female founder-designer brands that we have admired for years. We can be put together because we all stand out. What a heartwarming roundup that acknowledges what makes us all different and yet how we are fundamentally similar, having chosen distinctive and different paths. Thank you @jhanvii.23@rasnabhasin for including us and spending time to get to know what makes us tick.
A few weeks ago we exchanged thoughts with @tejashreeraul from @elleindia about our provocative thoughts on sustainability. And why we refuse to use the word to describe ourselves as so.
For us the case for mindfully consuming (well made things designed to last and versatile in nature) means we consume less over time and that was at the heart of why the brand was started. There has never been an expectation that we'd change human craving and desire for newness; but with a little bit of ethical production and considered design for wardrobe classics or whimsical novelties you can slow that hunger down.
We've engineered our clothing to be something you can rely on, reducing fitting issues with smocking, or creating statement structured silhouettes that have volume (but not weight) so both fitted and playful silhouettes accommodate for the changing nature of the body through days and months. This encourages those to use garments, more.
We would never use the word sustainable to define our identity, until there is some certification easily adopted through the fashion industry, because we know how erroneously the word is used and we dont want to be part of the greenwashing problem even if our intention is mindfulness. We are still learning and keeping up with best practices when we can adopt them.
As your body changes week to week and sometimes even within the same night, we believe clothing should keep up and be able to adapt to you too. Proud to have been featured in an article that articulates the context we are responding to as a brand, designer and consumer.
As any of our clients who have worn our smocked pieces will tell you it's so unique (catches a lot of double takes, the amount of compliments sometimes overwhelms) and is still wildly comfortable: they begin to wonder why this was the first time they didn't instantly want to rip off "formal wear" the minute the obligation to wear it was done. Or returning clients, ones buying colour variations or encouraging family to acquire their own: we know you feel the difference. And thank you.
@divyabal thank you for your keen and observant eyes, due diligence for trying on items and articulate...mind. And your hands for typing it all out. ❤️ @vogueindia
The fall of the handsmocked metal cotton shaped their bodies into silhouettes that played with volume. When they moved the fabric bent with their bodies and reformed once still.
Something about the collection that just moves with you 💃🏻

Before this was a cooling, handwoven, light, golden and cotton hand smocked ensemble. It was a seed. Sown, grown, cultivated, ginned, threaded, woven with metallic yarn by our weaver in Madhya Pradesh. And when it reached us we meticuously hand smocked using our unique 3 iterations of smocking. We then tailored it into an easy to wear adjustable, light, ironfree ensememble that stretches to your body and carves with smooth textures.
Hand smocking is a form of inclusion, an inclusion of comfort, function, ease, lightness and of course of shape. Our specially made handloom is in metallic cotton and features a prism of metallic shades.
A handwoven metallic chequered cotton textile is the base of our forms. We manipulate the thread before weaving and once its a fabric too. Treating it with handsmocking and special hand processes for wearability and comfort.
Take notice of how your clothes feel to wear. Take notice of what light does to textiles around you. How do they respond? Take notice of what warmth or the cold does to your body with the things you wear on, how does your body feel?
At ACQUIRE we have thought about it. And thats why we create what we do.
Light cotton and cooling metallic yarn create a special kind of luminence right from the thread. Our handwoven metallic PRISM is hand smocked, this means the patina of time adds depth to the texture of the sari, easy to bend, move and slip into. This sari is based was based on ACQUIREs signature pencil skirt with an attached full length Sari pallu. Its a future classic.
