❄️ Yes, that’s frost on his eyelashes – and yes, he’s got stories to match. From polar expeditions to Hollywood stunts to the racetrack, Andrew Comrie-Picard (“ACP”) has lived at the edge of adventure. On September 12, he’ll bring that same daring spirit to the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant Museum, the birthplace of the Model T, for Driving by Design. For ACP, Detroit isn’t just history, it’s energy. It’s the ingenuity of the Model T, the grit of entrepreneurs swinging for the fences, and the spark that happens when creativity meets risk. Join us as he connects his journey across racing, film, design, and innovation to the legacy of the city that created the automobile. 📅 Register: /visit/tours-tickets Learn more about thrill-seeker Andrew Comrie-Picard: /driving-by-design-a-fast-paced-event-to-be-at (link in bio) #detroitisit #detroit #ford #fordmotorcompany #fordmotorco #fordpiquetteavenue #fordpiquetteavenueplantmuseum #modelt #automotiveheritage #motorcity #puremichigan #detroitculture #detroitevents #madeindetroit #historiclandmark #detroitinnovation #detroitstories #drivingbydesign @fordpiquetteplant @acpracing20 @ford @thehenryford

Here’s the beginning of my race career. A 1978(?) Tamiya Countach that I modified (at about age 12, in 1983) for racing at Northern Alberta Scale Car Auto Racers (N.A.S.C.A.R.) events on the top floor of some school in Edmonton in the evenings. My friend Christopher Miles had a similar Datsun #33 and so I chose 34, which is my lucky number to this day. I got fast pretty quickly and by 1984 had a deal with BoLink and by 1985 with Associated/Reedy. Eventually I finished 4th in the US indoor championships and 6th outdoor. It was a great introduction to racing. I often say that 80% of what I learned about “real” (full scale) racing I learned in RC: prep, mental game, strategy, competitor and sponsor relations, etc. Later, getting in the car was only a controller change. Of course the racing then led to movie stunts, car TV shows, expeditions, autonomous cars, and the auto business. But it all started with an RC car at age 12, in 1983. Thanks Ellen Picard for the support along the way, and to all the friends and competitors on the voyage. I recently digit out of my family basement and, thanks to eBay, replaced a couple of parts and got it running. Ten year-old Lila just took er out fer a rip. A 47 year-old RC car.

Racers and car nerds alike: I want to draw your attention to an amazing resource written by elite race driver coach Ross Bentley sponsored by BFGoodrich Tires - a boiled-down version of many teachings from his famous Speed Secrets book series. From heel-and-toe to lines, weight transfer, and mental game, there’s a massive amount in here. Getting one of the actual books is going to be pretty VIP I think, but the good news is all the content is online at the link below (keep clicking on “read next chapter”). Honestly we can hand wave all day here about what makes you faster, but Ross has coached some of the best and fastest drivers in the country. And full disclosure, _after_ I won the North American Rally Cup overall AND an X Games medal, Gordon Ting and Scion/Toyota hired him to coach the whole team and he took me on also, and after that I got 5% faster and we had 17 consecutive podiums over three seasons. A good chunk of the mental game that led to that was from Ross. Click below and enjoy. I’ll let you know if I find a way to get any more hard copies. (Additional full disclosure: I’m a BFG brand ambassador after almost 20 years competing on their tires in rally, X Games, Baja1000, Pikes Peak, and FD. But I choose to partner; don’t have to. Honestly I do it because of things like this guide.) /auto/learn/performance-driving-guide/technique

Hey there - the year that #OlympusRally was in eastern washington, I hit something with the right rear that caused big toe-out, which we drove out. I’ve seen some gnarly pics of that (we even made a poster) but I can’t find the pics. Warwick Patterson was that you? Anyone have an image of this? Pic for attention !!

Now that everyone has had a chance to settle down (and @angelesdeathhighway has had the chance to make a video) here are some of my favorites from @fat.icerace Big Sky. @bentleymotors WO car is still my jam, but @rivianofficial incredible presence and great vehicles was impressive, and #ford came out to play with good friend @bradlovell44 on superlative @bfgoodrichtires studs. Truly great stuff. Well done @ferdiporsche and @zwart
