An early impetus for Cosmic View stemmed from a love of food, plants and family self-resilience. My dad came from Croatia and as a kid they grew nearly almost all of their own food, raised their own livestock, made their own wine and grappa and even ground their own corn into polenta. My whole entire life we have always had a garden growing tomatoes and lettuce in the summertime and eventually tending to olive trees and bees year-round.
I share this with a tremendous amount of humility for the privilege that I grew up and this way both in terms of the extreme poverty that afflicted my father’s family and also the vast number of people in this country who have been historically dispossessed from land ownership to grow their own food or cant even access fresh produce in their communities.
I definitely could spend the next few sentences dwelling on how sad it is that creating a business built on principles of land stewardship is not supported in our system. But what I will say is how rewarding it is carrying this ethos through the creation of any product - especially when it means defying the odds. What the powers that be don’t tell you is that connecting with your community of farmers is actually a connection to Source (capital S). I know I’m not the average person but I have found intimately knowing my supply chain (weed, herbs, oil, fruit etc) and making community has been one of the most heart expanding experiences of my life and something that I know I will take with me into any future projects that I work on.
We can make our own rules of engagement. Explosive growth, endlessly squeezed margins, cheaper and cheaper this and that doesn’t have to be the game plan. Lining VC & PE bros pockets is not the only way to do business, despite what we are told, especially as women in this industry. “Success” might look different but your heart will be full. And let me tell you, taking the path that we have opted to take, I would not trade that for ANYTHING. ✊🏼Here if you wanna talk ❤️🔥

Join us for an opening party next FRIDAY 4/5 @ 5 PM at @gospelflatshowspace for a 3 DAY COMMUNITY ART SHOW. 100% of the proceeds of the show will be tax-deductible to benefit @doctorswithoutborders with donations made onsite directly to the organization. Art will be up through the weekend so grab a piece on your way through town!

There was a point in college at UC Berkeley where me, my mom and my sister were all students together. We'd meet up at my mom's lab where she was doing her PhD work and walk to lunch off campus. When she proposed working together to create Cosmic View, it was an easy choice. Because my mom is amazing. One of the things that bummed me out about this industry is that her expertise often felt undervalued by retailers more interested in discounts and promos than sharing education and expertise. Elevating the voice of this amazing woman who before this was literally a world leader in cancer research. It's amazing to me that she never sat on a SINGLE cannabis panel, despite encountering the endocannabinoid system in her research at Berkeley over 20 years ago and being an important voice and advocate of cannabis science since our inception.
My mom taught me about living a life of service. She was a researcher and a professor, yes. But she has always been someone who answered every email she received from people around the world desperate for help with cancer or endometriosis. She taught me and my sister about being a person for others. It's the behind the scenes, often unglamorous work of supporting people through challenging times. We managed to build personal relationships with so many of you and I'd like to think that these relationships filled our hearts as much as I hope they filled many of yours.

Spring equinox feels particularly potent this year for us. Since deciding to end this chapter at Cosmic View, we’ve been feeling a lot: sadness, anger, hope, gratitude and many other feels we didn’t really know existed. The one true thing is that nothing is forever and that change will come. Doing some journeywork recently, I hit upon the learning that mother nature is the ultimate form of ego death. She just IS in the world - full of life, death, decay, rebirth and so on. No thinking about what’s next and how the last season impacted her identity as the giver and taker of life. Springtime is the ultimate reminder of that virtuous cycle — and today we embrace CHANGE. growth, new beginnings and faith that the next one will be even richer than the last.
