We're excited to share with you ACCFB’s first-ever Local Advocacy Priorities agenda! This agenda is a tool for community members and ACCFB in our local advocacy efforts, alongside our state and federal advocacy. By identifying clearly what the community needs and simultaneously strengthening relationships across the different levels of government, we can create and implement legislation that partners with our community to end hunger and its root causes. Check out the agenda at the link in our bio.

This #VolunteerAppreciationWeek, Annie McShane, ACCFB's Volunteer Engagement Manager reflected on the impact and importance of every single volunteer that's come through our doors: "Volunteer Appreciation Week always gives me a chance to pause and take in the sheer scale (and heart) of what this community makes possible. Over the past year, from last April to now, more than 18,000 volunteers have walked through our warehouse doors. Together, we’ve sorted nearly 7 million pounds of produce and packed 23,583 totes of bagged fresh fruits and vegetables. Whether you gave us one hour or nearly 500, your time mattered. It added up to something extraordinary. I say it all the time, not because it’s catchy but because it’s true: Volunteers make our mission possible. Thank you for everything you do. This week, and every week to come, please know you are appreciated."

This #EarthDay, we're reflecting on how protecting the environment goes hand in hand with spreading joy and nourishing our community. 🌷 🌞 🫛 Our Food Recovery Program helps reduce food waste, lessening the environmental impact of the greenhouse gases released when organics are added to landfills. The program brings added variety and quality in the products distributed to community members, including produce, milk, dairy, meat, shelf-stable foods, and even fresh flowers. “A special touch which I always talk about is the flowers and the plants that come from Trader Joe’s. Our clients don’t expect a dozen roses from a food pantry. People get to pick which one they want — it’s definitely a nice touch," -Candice Elder, Founder and Executive Director of East Oakland Collective, an ACCFB Food Recovery Program partner Pictured: volunteers sort through recovered and donated food at TCV Food Bank + Mobile Pantry in Fremont

In honor of National Volunteer Week, we’re revisiting a memorable moment from this past December. More than 100 @eatlearnplay partners, friends, and co-founders Stephen and Ayesha Curry showed up at the Alameda County Community Food Bank ready to work. In just one hour, volunteers sorted 17,762 pounds of food — nearly 15,000 meals for families across our community. @accfb ’s volunteer manager called it the most productive one-hour shift they’d ever had. Thank you to everyone who rolled up their sleeves that day — and to all who continue to give their time alongside Eat. Learn. Play. to make a difference in Oakland. #NationalVolunteerWeek #EatLearnPlay #AlamedaCountyCommunityFoodBank #Oakland #RealizeTheDream 📹 @charlikayyy

At Justice on the Table, we asked a harder question than usual: not just how to feed people today, but how to reduce the need tomorrow. Across the Tri-Valley and East Bay, food banks and nonprofit partners are doing incredible, necessary work to meet immediate needs. But as Friday’s conversation made clear, food insecurity does not exist in isolation. It is deeply connected to housing affordability, wages, healthcare access, and long-standing systemic barriers—including policies like redlining that continue to shape who has access to resources and opportunity. We are grateful to our keynote speakers sheila Burks and Jared Call, and to our panelists John Bost, Christine Dillman, and Janette Kennedy—along with Regi Young for moderating a thoughtful and candid conversation grounded in both urgency and possibility. Moving forward means holding both truths at once: responding to immediate need while working toward long-term, structural change. Because if we are serious about reducing hunger, we have to be just as serious about addressing its root causes.
