Onaje Allan Gumbs brought a real smoothness to jazz fusion, and when That Special Part of Me came out in 1988, it stayed in heavy rotation in my room and when I was on the air. Quiet Passion was the track that always stood out... laidback, soulful, and full of feeling without trying too hard.
The appreciation of the track comes later in the solo moments. Even now, every time I pull that record out, it still sounds fresh and takes me right back to that time. RIP🙏
