Our T-Level Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction students recently had the incredible opportunity to visit the world-famous Stonehenge alongside placement partner @beard.construct . During the visit, students took part in interactive activities with English Heritage, exploring the history of one of the UK’s most iconic landmarks and discovering more about traditional construction methods from the era. They also enjoyed a behind-the-scenes site tour with Beard Construction, where work is currently underway on a new accessible learning centre. The experience gave students valuable insight into the role of construction within heritage settings, while also showcasing how traditional craftsmanship and modern building techniques can work side by side. Seeing skilled craftspeople using historic methods in such a unique environment was both inspiring and educational for everyone involved. A huge thank you to @beard.construct and @englishheritage for supporting such a memorable and enriching experience for our students. #AbingdonAndWitneyCollege #TLevels #Stonehenge #EnglishHeritage #BeardConstruction

The Construction Skills Competition Trade Event gave staff, employers and apprentices a chance to reflect on why industry‑focused competitions matter. Staff highlighted how events like this help bridge the gap between training and real‑world expectations, giving learners the confidence to perform under pressure. Employers spoke about the importance of seeing emerging talent in action and the value of early engagement with the future workforce. Apprentices described the experience as challenging, motivating and a real insight into what industry demands. Together, their perspectives reinforced one message: hands‑on, employer‑connected experiences are essential for developing skilled, work‑ready professionals. We spoke to Mark French, Head of Bicester Construction Skills Centre, Scott Gray, Vice Principal for Curriculum & Quality, Rick Henstridge, Construction Manager at Henstridge Construction, and three Site Carpentry Apprentices to capture their insights on the day.
