Spent the day yesterday with my girl… finally getting around to gifting her Xmas present… her request was makeup - a world unknown to me as I never worn it! We wandered the new Mecca store and I was simultaneously aghast at the amount of products and the consumerist overload whilst also being in awe of the beautiful concept of the store itself…housed over three levels in a stunning old art deco building… the consideration of colour and print and texture a delight to my heart and eyes! Minkas POTS means standing for long periods is impossible so she navigated the whole experience as a wheelchair user and while the aisles were at times a little narrow, mostly due to us unknowingly choosing an especially busy day, I was impressed by the care of all the employees. The customer service was faultless, they were ALL delightful. We were greeted as if we were old friends, the young ones at ease with themselves, the older ones revelling in the freedom of diverse genders and ages…the security were friendly and engaging… it was hard not to think for a brief moment that the world might just be ok… I know there’s a mountain of things wrong with the very existence of such stores, but for the day I was genuinely humbled by the kindness expressed to my daughter, the unwavering acceptance of her wheelchair and feeding tube and for a few hours we delighted in textures, scents and creativity off tap… it was absolutely overwhelming and overstimulating but comforting as well. I was like a kid in a lolly shop repeating “ooh what’s this one do?” a thousand times (it’s eye shadow mumma 🤣) fell head over heels in love with Dries Van Noten perfumes, sipped delicious herbal tea and left completely exhausted and covered in sparkles! Now to save up for my very own Dries Van Noten bottle - which is refillable by the way!

Manal’s PISCES/AMPHITRITE gown before she left the studio… this was a really lovely one… Manal visiting the studio each time with her twin sister - so special to witness the subtle union twins of twins! We graduated the shirring on the skirt to harmonise with the pleating of the AMPHITRITE wings… the bodice was shirred like the PISCES but cut more like the AMPHITRITE and the result was a beautiful retelling of both pieces!

Easing back into the studio for 2026… having evacuated here on the recent catastrophic fire day and with fire affecting our community it has been heartbreaking to see so many people lose their homes and so many natural environments also ravaged including our beautiful Leanganook… my home studio is nestled against the back drop of native bushland and I genuinely feel so lucky that we were spared the devastation of my neighbouring town…
