First time at the new @pausacoffee.co near Hanover Square. I don’t drink coffee so I got my first hot mulled cider of the season. Very cozy!

Charles Madlock wants the Black community to put agriculture before pop culture. “Most people want to be rappers, football players or basketball players, anything but farming, because that’s just what our culture is,” he said. But Madlock — an urban agriculture consultant and owner of @goldencaratfarms , and founder of @nourishcuseproject — argues the community would be more empowered by taking ownership of food insecurity solutions. “I speak about farming the way I do,” he said, “because people don’t really realize the economic impact farming actually has. This is an investment in the city of Syracuse.” 🥬 Amy Bleier Long has the story on thisiscny.com. Link in bio

🥐 Sugar Grove (@sugargrovesyracuse ) opened in downtown Syracuse last fall after four years in Cazenovia and five years in its initial Canastota location as The Toast. You can’t talk about (or visit) Sugar Grove without getting into the pastries. If you fancy a plain croissant, you’ll be well-rewarded here, but that is literally as plain as things get. You "could explore that bakery case for weeks without getting to all the doughnuts, macarons and treats that are available," wrote @lesleyporcelli . Read her full review at thisiscny.com. Having spent most of her life training and competing in a male-dominated sport, Tahirah Abdul-Qadir is using her time and talent to empower other young women and girls. She’s been training in martial arts almost since she could walk and started competing in kickboxing internationally at age 14. Outside of her work in the ring, @tahirahaq04 works as a social justice advocate focusing on mental health, women’s issues and equity for women in sports and education. She started her organization, FLAG Empowerment LLC (Fight Like A Girl), when she was in high school. Full story by Amy Bleier Long (@ableditsitall ) on thisiscny.com and syracuse.com.
