Storytelling is one of the greatest privileges and responsibilities, and when that process reflects the diversity and best of humanity, ✨ magic ✨ happens. (a question at the bottom of this post if you make it there!) What a joy to moderate this conversation presented by The Walt Disney Company for NALIP’s Diverse Women in Media Forum. Rachel Pearson is an Emmy award-winning lead video editor at ESPN whose passion and heart come across in the stories she tells. She champions stories that have yet to be told and approaches her work with excellence and humanity. Pearson worked on a moving feature on the first women’s sports bar in the U.S., The Sports Bra and its founder, Jenny Nguyen. Melissa Lora is executive director of drama development at 20th Television. As a child she fell in love with Star Wars and Disney. Now, she takes story ideas from inception to reality and has even worked on a Star Wars project. She values the responsibility of championing and fortifying projects that reflect the real world. Sometimes an interview or panel discussion feels more like a nourishing conversation — that’s what this was. Fun fact: I asked them each about a film that stands out from their childhood as an example of impactful storytelling. Their answers: A League of Their Own and Star Wars. If you’ve made it this far 😅, which film stands out to you as a powerful story you watched early in life? Photos by NALIP, Anna Webber, and Jc Olivera

These are a few of my favorite things: 🌾 When nature perfectly frames the moon 🌕 📕 A sunset walk with a book in hand ✨ The way the sunlight turns a simple piece of paper into something to admire at golden hour.

Federal district judge for the Central District of California, André Birotte Jr. is expected to rule on whether to order DHS to stop these practices as the lawsuit filed by the Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law (@chrclla ) proceeds. The suit also seeks that those already deported can return to the U.S. and see their applications through.

A mother and daughter from the San Fernando Valley, a five-year-old boy from Costa Mesa, a taquero from Highland Park, and a boxer from Oxnard. Just a few of the people Bad Bunny and his team chose to bring a layered story to life in what is now the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show in history, Benito Bowl. This is a glimpse of the historic performance through the voices of those who played a role in it. It was a tribute to Puerto Rico, its people, and the humanity of those who make up the Americas. Leaving a link in my bio to an in-depth and thoughtful article that walks you through the imagery, symbolism and songs featured in this 13-minute performance people will remember for many years to come.

According to the latest available data reported by ICE, there have been at least 10 deaths in ICE custody this year up to June 26. That number already surpasses the number of deaths reported in the first half of every year since 2018.
