Lucia’s mad scene — where music becomes pure emotion 🤯
Ever wonder why one cannot find the cadenza in the vocal score where Lucia sings with the flute in the famous "mad scene" in opera “Lucia di Lammermoor”? This is because the cadenza was not written by Donizetti but was likely composed by Mathilde Marchesi for a performance at the Palais Garnier in Paris. Watch soprano Aubry Ballarò perform the “secret” in this clip now!
✨ Only 2️⃣ days to premiere — don’t miss out on this bel canto opera! Grab your tickets now!

“Aubry Ballarò as Violetta is extraordinary…she brings that same warmth and depth offstage as she does in the role. It’s rare to see someone so naturally aligned with a character—

It was incredibly special to read this, because in this production, I truly have never felt more like Violetta.
Working on La Traviata with @opera.columbus was an absolute thrill and honor, and I’m endlessly grateful to the artists and team who brought this production to life. 💙

This has always been one of my favorite musical moments from Lucia, and it was such a privilege to sing this with @pablo_bemsch_tenor , @vivianipconductor , and the @musicavivahk orchestra 💙

There’s something full circle about returning to La traviata—the first opera I ever experienced, and now, seeing it again here in Columbus.
Born from the music of Giuseppe Verdi and inspired by Alexandre Dumas Fils’s La Dame aux camélias, La traviata remains the most performed opera in the world for a reason. It’s a story that cuts deep—love shaped by class, tested by reputation, and ultimately undone by sacrifice. Violetta Valéry’s journey is both intimate and devastating, a reminder of how powerful—and fragile—love can be when placed under the weight of society.
Getting to experience the dress rehearsal made it even more special. There’s a rawness to it, something unpolished and honest. You see the bones of the performance—the intention, the emotion, the craft—before it’s fully sealed for opening night. It feels closer, more human.
And the cast delivers in every sense. Aubry Ballarò as Violetta is extraordinary. I had the chance to meet her a couple weeks ago, and she brings that same warmth and depth offstage as she does in the role. It’s rare to see someone so naturally aligned with a character—she feels like Violetta.
Grateful to witness this story again, in a new moment, in a city that continues to show up for the arts and all thanks to @opera.columbus
Time in the rehearsal studio is wrapped, and now we move to the theater! So many joyful moments working on La Traviata with the most wonderful people here at @opera.columbus – here are some rehearsal moments! Pics from Terry Gilliam, Erin Fasone @aballaro@jgbtenor@heytherenessy

One of my favorite moments of Mozart’s Mass in C minor is this movement that has been on a constant loop in my mind these last months…
A small clip to meditate on, especially for those who celebrate this Holy Week.
