I am honored and privileged to announce that my film
@senakulofilm will have its World Premiere at the 32nd Austin Film Festival. I’ve imagined this day for six years, and by the grace of God, it’s finally here.
I am deeply grateful to Sir Ruben Enaje for his openness, kindness, and trust — for allowing both a group of strangers from halfway across the world and members of his own community to step into his life during such an intimate moment, and to document his story with honesty and care.
I’m equally thankful to my extraordinary team, who believed in this vision enough to travel across the world into uncertainty and pour themselves into bringing this story to life, seven days straight, from sunrise to sunset, in relentless heat and demanding conditions. To my family, both in the Philippines and the U.S., who supported this film on the ground and from afar, thank you for lifting me up. To my post-production team who elevated this film tenfold through music, sound, color, and design, thank you.

This film is the truest and strongest realization of the story we set out to tell. Completing it marks the biggest artistic achievement of my career thus far, and it fills me with indescribable joy to finally share it with the world.
What began as an internal exploration of my relationship to the Philippines and the faith traditions I grew up in became a rediscovery of home, culture, and belonging. Through Senakulo, I have never felt more connected to my homeland, my family, my language, and my faith than I do now.
