Mañana – Amor (1981)
Venezuelan musician Jorge Spiteri, known as the Godfather of Latin Funk, arrived in London in 1972 and ended up recording with the likes of Bob Marley and members of Traffic. Under the name Mañana, he and Steve Alpert released this killer maxi-single on EMI Venezuela “Amor” on the A-side, “Disco Samba” on the B-side, both produced by Winston Sela.
The record was mixed at Ringo Starr’s studio in England. Years later, @amgsinvisibles covered “Amor” on their Latin Grammy-winning album Arepa 3000 (2000) with David Byrne’s Luaka Bop label.
As their bassist @ralphdance put it, it’s a song that isn’t theirs but feels like it is.
A Venezuelan disco gem with a Beatles connection, doesn’t get much better than that.

The best part of curating records isn’t finding them, it’s watching someone else hear them for the first time.
