For our third Community Feature, we’re sharing images by Zoobia Ilyas —

“Photography is one of the few hobbies that has sustained my attention and passion for so long, which is rare for me. I’m normally the type to try something, get bored, and move on quickly. But I’ve really enjoyed the way that photography has taken me on many adventures, both within my local surroundings as well as abroad.” - Zoobia Ilyas
Although Zoobia began with street photography, she’s embraced shooting live music, travel, and portraits (primarily on film), which has led her to developing her own film and making darkroom prints.
“Making a print is such a fascinating process, especially understanding and witnessing how minor tweaks get me closer to what I want to create. There are very few things that rival the satisfaction I get when everything clicks and I’ve created a really solid print that I can be proud of having in my collection.” - Zoobia Ilyas
In January 2025, she created a community for female photographers in Toronto, called She Shoots, as a way of highlighting stories and perspectives that were often dismissed in mixed-gender groups.
As the community grows, she hopes to bring attention to not just the challenges they may face, but to their diverse skills as photographers and creatives, within a supportive and non-judgmental environment.
