The African American Heritage Society is excited to welcome local author Phillip Perry (@forkintheroadpress ) who will be joining us at our upcoming Pumpkins on The Porch event! Here's some information about him: "A lifelong Williamson Countian, Phillip Perry grew up playing at the nearby Union Civil War Camp Fort Granger in historic Franklin, Tennessee, graduating from Franklin High School in 1976. He holds two degrees from Aquinas College in Nashville and retired from the local power utility, NES as a System Control Operator after 36 years of service. He is a history and movie buff and his hobbies include writing, gardening, martial arts, travel, and music. He and his wife Lesa still reside in Williamson County, Tn."

On behalf of all of us at the African American Heritage Society, our hearts are deeply saddened in learning of the passing of District Attorney General Kim Helper. General Helper was a longtime supporter of ours, who supported the organization financially and always attended our annual Black Tie Affair. Every year, she would purchase extra tickets so that someone who couldn’t afford a ticket could attend the event. AAHS President Alma Mclemore, who served with General Helper on the 21st District Recovery Court’s Board of Directors, remembers Kim as a dear friend and one who always wanted to help others. Her passing is a great loss to our community and she will be sorely missed. We extend our sincere sympathy and condolences to her family at this time.

It’s not too late to apply! If you are a current high school senior with an interest in African American history and heritage, there’s still time to apply for the Tom Murdic Educational Scholarship.
