Grain Sessions ◦ 002: Erop «Fracturing Frequency Modulation» ◦◦◦ Grain Sessions ◦ is a series of mixes from artists close to the Grain ◦ cooperative, with a focus on working with sound and environment. We consider sound as a way of fixing one’s own state in space and explore its textures as carriers of meaning. The second episode of the series was recorded in the ArtPlay office with a view of the railway tracks. Erop rethinks frequency modulation as a sensory and environmental phenomenon in which sound is deformed not only algorithmically, but also under the influence of external spatial factors. @aa.erop — member of the @etherealgrooves , a DJ and music producer. He works with samples from a web environment, considering it as a form of virtual field recording. His compositions were played on the air of the @ola_radio , included in the @flaty_ mix for @dublab , and were also released on the @faux.association (ex Kruzhok Moscow Radio). Its 3rd track is “Plein Air” by erop — @etherealgrooves editor, @grain.coop co-founder, DJ and producer based in Moscow. He describes “Plein Air” as “inspired by unique features of aerodynamics. It draws on my field recordings from various periods of my life, including on March 9, 2025 in a malfunctioning elevator, when I stuck my phone out the window of a moving car, and on April 2025, where a conversation and two songs playing in the background formed a mashup, all of which inspired me. For reference, I drew on the compositions of Kangding Ray, the composer behind the recently released film “Sirat”.
