GEEKY POST ALERT🤓
I wanted to show you one of my favourite Jay Dee/ Dilla beats called Yum Yum that samples Bacharach/David Medley: Knowing When To Leave by The Carpenters.
The track is from a niche Dilla tape called ‘The Jay Dee Project’ that I estimate to have been created around 97/98 (maybe even earlier) and contains verses from all 3 original members of @officialslumvillage : @officialjdilla , @t3slum and Baatin.
There is barely any info about why or how this collection of tracks came about but I did read that the tape was meant to be released as one of the original Fantastic volumes but never saw the light of day. Some of the tracks from the tape including Sentimental Love, Fly Girl and Yum Yum were eventually released on the Slum Village Volume 0 album.
The tape that circulates online is incomplete but I believe @questlove , @houseshoes and only a few others have the complete tape that contains a beat Dilla produced for D’Angelo’s Voodoo record that Lauryn Hill was supposedly meant to feature on.
If anyone has anymore insight into this project I’d be really interested to hear about it :)

Diathan Vintage, Hanoi 🇻🇳
During the last week of my travels in Vietnam, I was wandering the streets of Hanoi and stumbled across one of the coolest record shops I’ve been too!
The owner Thai was super knowledgable about every single record that I’d pull out. He was able to give me insight on the artist, what year the record was pressed, its condition and his favourite tune on the album! Not only was Thai super clued up on his collection, he’s also such a friendly guy!! :)
The shop was filled with a variety of genres including Japanese Jazz Fusion, Rare Groove, Hip-Hop, Soft Rock, Jazz and Soul (HEAVEN)!!!
I ended up buying four records:
I Am - Earth Wind and Fire (OG Master Sound Japanese Pressing)
In Square Circle - Stevie Wonder (OG Japanese Pressing)
