Women Artist Filmmakers and Environmental Activism
Wednesday 19th March 4.30-6pm LICA A36, Lancaster University
Join us tomorrow for a symposium looking at Eco-feminism, activism, and film making in the context of the current national touring survey exhibition 'Women in Revolt' (
@tate @nationalgalleriesscot @whitworthart )
The event includes a keynote lecture from Dr Lucy Reynolds (Westminster University)
@afeministchorus drawing on her work as curatorial advisor on Moving Image works for ‘Women in Revolt’ and curator of the accompanying programme Through a Radical Lens, a six-part screening and conversation series featuring the film and video practices of UK-based feminist artists and collectives, bringing together historic and rarely seen films and video works with those by contemporary moving image artists.
The keynote will be followed by a presentation and short film screenings with artist-researcher-filmmakers
@denizjhns (LICA, Film),
@a.c.dickson (LICA, PGR). We will also screen Fire Film (1981) by Annabel Nicolson, Nan Sewing, stitched film (2024) by Amy Dickson and Sewing Café Lancaster, and Women's Call (2018) by
@birch_rebecca which followed the protesters against fracking at Preston New Road, Lancashire. Drawing on her expertise in feminist film scholarship, Dr Dalila Missero (LICA, Film) will act as respondent to the presentations before event culminates in a panel discussion with all speakers, chaired by
@jensouthern_ (LICA, Fine Art), at which point there will be opportunity for questions.
Lucy Reynolds is a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for MRES Creative Practice at University of Westminster. She has lectured and published extensively, examining questions of the moving image, feminism, political space and collective practice through her writing, curating and art projects. As an artist, her films and installations have been presented in galleries and cinemas internationally, including her ongoing sound work A Feminist Chorus.
