// Recent Acquisition- a long coveted collaboration finally turned up in my size.
// This model the “Drifter” from the Nike ISPA collection, an experimental concept which originated in 2018 and stands for Improvise, Scavenge, Protect and Adapt. Similar to the Considered collection from 2005, the designs explore the concept of sustainability in construction methods, like using recycled materials and glueless construction.
// This model is based on the traditional split toe jikatabi work shoe style, with hemp uppers and sakura embroideries. The original off white was then sent to a traditional indigo farm and dye collective known as BUAISOU located in Tokushima prefecture and dyed indigo in a nod perhaps to the traditional working class color roots (royalty wearing colors like purple and gold).
I decided to pair them today with a vintage USN workwear set for a “denim tux” look!

*** CLAIMED. THANK YOU! ***
// The other one went fast but thankfully I was able to track down another vintage Kapital ring coat in a lovely washed 2x1 denim. Around 10oz.-11oz. weight (similar to vintage painters pants) this jacket is a nice example of Kapital’s iterative approach to design wherein a signature style is revisited season over season with modified details based on inspiration. Rather than the original bent wire ring buttons this one plays with the workwear inspiration of the denim fabric and uses beautiful cast aluminum open top (donut) tack buttons as one might find on a pair of vintage denim carpenter pants…made in Shikoku at a factory (Yamashiro) that uses vintage style machinery and construction methods.
// No tag but fits like a size 2 which is a M/L in this style. Priced at $475 please DM with inquiries
// FIT DETAILS:
Pants- vintage 1940s P-41 HBT pant (USA)
Vest- Kapital “Beach Vest” (Japan)
Shirt- vintage 1950s rayon Aloha shirt (USA)

Hat- Jackman heavy waffle beanie (Japan)
Glasses- vintage American Optical
Belt- vintage silk obijime (Japan)
// MUSIC- “Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey)” by De La Soul (1991)
// SQUARE APPARENT //
// Now Available- vintage 1990s FLOAT brand side tables/ stools. Soft cast silicone rubber over a clear rigid frame sitting on four rounded silicone rubber feet. The semi-transparent nature of the material creates an interesting glow when exposed to more direct light sources. Unusual conversation pieces which are oddly satisfying to the touch.
* Note for the perfectionists out there- the organic surface picks up impression marks fairly easily but in my opinion creates an interesting evolving patina through daily use.
// priced at $325 each or the pair is yours for $600- please DM with questions or to claim

***NOW SOLD- THANK YOU***
// Own a piece of iconic current (and future) design history
// Now available- one of my favorite and most worn closet staples- The Kapital Ring Coat. This one was designed in the early days (2005-2010) when Kapital was still a small retail brand local to the Japanese market and unavailable outside of Japan through wholesale accounts.
// The jacket takes its name from the beautiful bent wire change buttons on the front closure and pockets. Can be worn many ways as double breasted or with facings folded back for a more “wrap coat” style. These original buttons were replaced by standard corozo buttons once Kapital began wholesaling outside of Japan- I imagine due to cost or production limits or both.
// This one I sourced is in a lightweight Japanese slubby 2x1 fine twill probably around 8oz…a little heavier than a shirt but lighter than a chino- makes an excellent transition layering piece as the days get warmer but are still unpredictable.
// A unisex size 1 that fits from around XS-Medium for most folks with ample room and excellent drape
// Priced at $475 (including shipping)- these are hard to find and will become increasingly so as the Kapital brand has now been gobbled up by LVMH and will likely get value engineered further in fabric and trim details from here on out.
// Please DM with interest or questions

// MUSIC- Ring the Alarm by Tenor Saw (1985)
// BEANS TALK 🌱 aka LL BEAMS //
// Recent acquisition/ Appreciation post for this oddball design from the LL Bean archives- a hybrid hunting/work vest reminiscent of Browns Beach body with houndstooth sleeves. I’ve had the original Black Label LL Bean in a (too small) size for a few years which just frustrates me whenever I excitedly take it out of storage every year only to realize either it is getting smaller or I am getting larger…
// So I was elated to finally track down the replica/tribute in my size designed for Fennica (Beams Japan) by the inimitable Terry Ellis in partnership with OrSlow. I thought some other design nerds like myself may enjoy a side by side comparison of some key construction details- enjoy!
