Last month, @surfriderla hosted an interpretive beach cleanup event with @californiatrout at Malibu Lagoon during @laclimateweek . While cleaning the beach, participants explored Malibu’s watershed history & learned about efforts to restore the local ecosystem of the Southern steelhead trout. It was a great time for volunteers to hear from CalTrout & SF Coast & Climate committee about efforts to restore endangered Southern steelhead habitat and reconnect the watershed sediment flow to Surfrider Beach. The project to remove Rindge Dam will help build coastal resilience and allow us to protect our beaches and coastal watershed ecosystems for generations to come. By reconnecting and restoring the watershed, native species will benefit, and a natural connection of sediment downstream will nourish the beach, protecting it from erosion. Stay connected for future coastal resilience projects to protect people, wildlife, and the beaches we love. Director: @matthewjohnbenton Editor: @_zach_edwards

Wanderings through the High Sierras, observing the transition from fall to winter, 2022. Zach & I ventured up to Bishop Pass in October a couple years ago and brought a few cameras with us. After a steep ascent with heavy bags in tow, there was a great stillness when we camped at bishop lake. I would step out of the tent at night to no sounds of water, wind or creatures. The complete silence was haunting yet restorative. The next day, we rose above the pass and traveled down into Dusy Basin. It was a beautiful day but the oncoming weather indicated that winter was arriving. So we changed our plans, hiked back up the pass and headed down the mountain. It was a special place that I hope to return to one day.

One week before we rescued Steelhead Trout from Topanga Creek following thePalisades Fire, @rcdsmm invited me to join their efforts to rescue another important & endangered species - the Northern Tidewater Goby. This was ten days after the start of the Palisades Fire. Driving northbound along PCH, past the unfathomable destruction that has forever changed the coastline I’ve known over the last decade, was humbling to say the least. We arrived to the site as volunteer biologists and local conservation partners began to coordinate the rescue of the incredibly cute & shockingly tiny Tidewater Goby. Our goal was to capture 500, but we far surpassed that objective, rescuing over 750 gobies! I was so thankful to be invited to participate in these critical efforts to protect the interconnectivity of species in our watershed in the wake of such a tragedy.
