K-ART PORTAL Have you ever wondered what lingers after we drift apart? Our latest feature looks at Blinking Echoes (2025), an incredible, multi-disciplinary performance piece by the Vienna-based Yi-um Collective. Performed at @belvedere21wien and the @korea_kulturzentrum , the work explores chance encounters, separation, and the fluttering energy that inhabits the background of our lives, surfacing unexpectedly. It demonstrates how these echoes refuse to fade, creating new meeting points with people we may have forgotten, and inviting us to reflect upon the desire, vulnerability, and emotional intensity that defines our most intimate worlds. . As part of Auftakt Korean Culture Center @korea_kulturzentrum in November 28th 2025 •Title: Blinking Echoes •Duration: 50–60 min •Concept: So Young Park, Sunggu Hong •Dramaturgy: Sunggu Hong •Costume & Stage Design: So Young Park, Lily Kim @ky_pg_0813 •Performer: June Hwajung @june_hwajung Seung-Yeon Jung @seung_yeon_jung So Young Park @work_so_young_ Sunggu Hong @sung_gu_ •Sound: Yewon Park @deepbriyto , Sunggu Hong •Music: This Turbulent World (이 풍진 세월-희망가) – Chaeseon Park, Lryusaek (박채선, 이류색) (1923) & Jungphy Lee (이정표) (2019) •Photo: Nora Simandi @project_nrsmnd Lens Kühleitner @lan.rex.1 Karina Efendi @jinnfem Sanjid Mahmud @sanjid_mahmud_bulbul •Video: Ana Sofia Matos @ana_sofiarm Hailun Wan @hailunwandering This performance has been presented on February 20, 2025, as part of the performance program Performing a Line, curated by Andrea Kopranovic, at Belvedere 21 in Vienna. Performers were: June Hwajung, Seung-Yeon Jung, So Young Park, Sunggu Hong, and Yewon Park. •Description of the Performance: How do we encounter one another— and how are we apart from one another? Moments of encounter appear accidentally or unexpectedly, just as the moments in which we begin to drift apart. These moments of connection and disconnection ask us: “Perhaps even in distance—in the act of being apart—do we remain connected?” The echo keeps blinking constantly. It does not disappear. It invites us to look again at what we are connected to—and what we are not. In doing so, we become “connected” once more. Blinking Echoes asks how we exist in relation to one another. Relationships, whether formed by coincidence or intention, bind us together and shape us mutually. Through repeated encounters and parting, these relationships persistently transform and continue. We move closer to those we were previously unaware of, and we meet our past and present again. Where are the echoes we have left behind now? And: “How should we meet, and how do we say goodbye to one another”
