with today marking international dance day, the start of the last week of the semester, and 2 more weeks until graduation (woohoo!), i wanted to take this time to share and talk about my senior capstone project for my major/degree in gender, sexuality, and women's studies!!
the intention behind the project was to share some light and new insight on how body image issues in dance are ultimately a systemic issue that stems from the social construction of gender norms. we've all been conditioned from an early age what our bodies are supposed to look and act like, and within dance this is no exception. i think it's about time we deconstruct all the restrictions that dictate what a dancer's body should look like and allow a dancer's body to just simply be a body that dances! i am keeping my survey up in my bio even though my capstone has already been analyzed and presented because i hope that these questions can create real change in the dance industry and allow everyone to gain a new perspective on how we can view dance! i am also always open to conversations about this topic and project so let's keep talking about it!!
i am so grateful and lucky to have had endless amounts of love and support with this project! my dancers are absolutely stunning and i thank you so much for sharing your vulnerability and movements! and a special thank you to lindsey for helping with the editing and dance moves and support! this project keeps reminding me why i love dance and that change is good even in the things we love the most! i can't wait to see what becomes of this project and hope that the future of dance can including more inclusivity, artistry, and joy♥️

yesterday i presented my choreography in nyc for the first time, which still sounds so surreal to me! i am filled with so much gratitude for my amazingly talented cast who just simply made this whole process the most enjoyable! and i am so so grateful for @taycambria and @anthology33 for creating the most beautiful, creative, supportive environment for dance!! dancing is the best but dancing and celebrating with friends is even better!!
i have been a fan of @postmalone since high school, at a time when dancing as a career seemed like a really far stretch but an even bigger dream to achieve. to say that this dance is a full circle moment is an understatement! i never imagined my life would be what it is today, but i wouldn't want it any other way💗💗
**special shoutout to emma and brooklyn for having me dance their beautiful choreography and be their collective brain cells (quite literally)! endless love to you both♥️♥️
