listening tto pop-punk in my formative years has surely influenced my vocal approach when making ttwig songs. here’s tthe outro vocals from The Transall Saga soloed without FX. i jumped right in tthe studio after having a really heartbreaking conversation on my bed with a former partner. capturing emotion in tthe form of a vocal tto forever be encapsulated within a waveform is something ttruly special. 🌊 Hang Ten! 🏄‍♀️ animation by @ne.wshoes

one evening, during my first year living in LA (2019), i went out to a surf-themed bar in Venice. after a few beverages, i made my way to the bathroom. as i was peeing, i took a moment to glance at all of the posters/art on the walls. one caught my eye in particular. it read: Hang Ten Colors to Catch the Sun. what an awesome combination of words! i wrote it down so i wouldn’t forget it. fast forward to 2020 during the lockdown. all of these songs were written/recorded during the same creative surge as Mindless Meadow. it felt easy to differentiate the songs and categorize them into 2 distinct records. Hang Ten Colors to Catch the Sun was the perfect name for this batch. you can really feel the California influence on this one. in November of 2020, i took a solo trip to San Francisco to visit a friend. shoutout my 2016 Subaru, Betty one time!!! after my trip, I took my sweet time (10 hours) to cruise the PCH back down to LA. I had recently ended a long term relationship and was going through a lot of self reflection & life ponderings. the metaphor of waves has always made so much sense to me. as much as we yearn to be in control, we aren’t. the ocean doesn’t adhere to the will of man. it is wild. it is free. it just is. if life is an ocean, you just gotta ride the wave. and then: a gift/sign from the universe; i pulled over to witness the most beautiful sunset i’ve ever seen in my life on the coast of Big Sur. this is the 35mm photo (with some color alterations) that became the front cover. all of the art for this record was taken on 35mm and color edited afterwards to match the colors i see when the music is playing. it has been an absolute joy finding my voice as ttwig and i am so thrilled to let this body of work out into the wild. i truly hope it resonates with you in some way, shape, form or color. major thanks to: •my love @dylankiddmusic : bass, toms & additional guitar/synth on The Astrologist •the incomparable @thegrowtheternal for the bass on Disappear •impeccable mastering by Karl Klaseie @oramastering •music video/animation by @viincejg 💎 •photo animations by my main man @ne.wshoes thank you all SO much!!!! I Wanna Be A Dog. tthis song poured out like an out-of-body experience. i came up with tthe bassline & and before i knew it, tthe other instruments pieced themselves ttogether. i watched from a bird’s-eye view as i moved from bass tto drums tto guitar, sprinkling ttrippy details along tthe way. tthen came tthe lyrics; inspired by the beauty of a dog’s existence—living in tthe moment, ttotally loved & never questioning ttheir instincts. with ttongue-in-cheek wit delivered in a semi-british accent (i dunno, it just came out tthat way), tthis track captures tthe carefree emotional purity of wanting tto live life as a dog. tthe music video extends tthis surreal vision. shoutout my genius @viincejg who brought to life my vision of reimagining myself as a chunky PS1/N64 character, navigating portals built from 35mm photos i ttook tthat double as tthe record’s artwork & immersive world. ‘I Wanna Be A Dog’ is tthe second single from ttwig’s upcoming & sophomore record, Hang Ten Colors to Catch the Sun, available for preorder. 🌀ttwig.net🌀

ttuesday, we jump, for all my dogs

i met @thegrowtheternal at a @leavingrecords show when we were both fresh in LA in 2019. hadn’t even heard their music yet, but he just had an incredibly infectious positive spirit. a true gem of a human for real. i had tried my hand at a bassline for Disappear but just wasn’t able to get it how i heard it in my head. cue ghalani. the bassline is my favorite part of the song. ima let these videos speak for themselves. forever grateful for the connections music brings; never underestimate the power of collaboration !!! 🌀new ttwig single ttuesday the 23rd 🐶 🌀
