released some music over the weekend :)
material i’d worked on from my in-laws’ in baltimore, a few weeks before a big move
it feels like a nice way to wrap a string of self-releases i’ve done over the year— a time where i’d been able to reset and think on what it really is about music that I care about most

Hello world :) In collaboration with Becky Chung, “web” is a new mixed-media project featuring Becky’s textile work and artists’ music, as part of my Kapha Selections series. Naturally, we’re pretty excited to finally share…
“web1” features two new compositions by @vitoriccimusic — an artist and friend who’s had an enormous creative impact on our lives.
These pieces are unmistakably “Vito”, to say the least. Featuring his uncanny “multi-directional drumming” (a termed coined by his late friend and collaborator, Rashied Ali), MIDI programming, and audio spatialization— they’re rich, playful, alive and flow just like water. They have a structure that’s undeniably akin to woven fabric— interlocking patterns that are deceptively mapped out, yet entirely delicate and free-form to the senses. It’s music that’s seemingly only “hanging by a thread“.

Figured it’d be nice to wrap the best week of my life with a little release of 4 new tunes. I’ve been finding so many things energizing lately, and self-releasing music has definitely been one of them. There’s a link in my bio if you’d like to listen 🙂

Kapha Selections #8, the final cassette in the series, is out today
Honored to showcase some work by one of my oldest friends, John Gasper, whom I’ve known practically since I'd first moved to New York. What went from consistent talking about our favorite music soon morphed into performing in various free jazz/noise ensembles around the city. John seems to have this boundless well of energy and an infectious brand of creativity-- the perfect collaborator.
Though he’s an excellent actor, over the years he's found work and creative freedom as a sound designer for countless plays in the NYC experimental theater scene. After viewing a recent performance titled 'Events' (directed by his wife, Sarah Blush), this tape began as soon as I'd asked him about the soundscape that had taken place mid-show.
All of these pieces were composed for various theater performances that were held across NYC since 2017, or in his words:
"All tracks were made for theatrical performances, to be heard alongside action, for a time and space defined and ephemeral. For best experience: listen while watching someone doing something, from a certain distance, at appropriate volume."
