‘(In Our Lives) We Died Once Or Twice’
A Portrait of @dandawcp
2026
56 x 76cm
Watercolour pencil, watercolour paint and synthetic polymer paint on hot pressed watercolour paper.
Dan and I first met as young performers when I was 11 and he was barely a teenager. We were both cast in Fiona Sprott’s ‘(In My Life) I Died Once Or Twice’, a production about youth suicide, performed across Adelaide and Whyalla. This was my first ‘big production’. There’s a lot to say about that experience but in short - it exploded our lives apart and showed us, from very early on, how we could make theatre that mattered to us.
Dan is and always has been completely magnetic on stage. I remember watching him dance in the Urban Myth studio in 1999, jaw on the floor. He is an immense talent and I am very proud to know him. Dan continues to develop and perform spectacular theatre works across the world. He is a champion for queer and disabled performance, performers and their practices. If you haven’t seen a Dan Daw show, you need to go ahead and fix that as soon as possible.
Portraiture originally existed to document and capture important people in saintly garb or heavenly outfitting. Although heavily non-religious, double halo-ing Dan and capturing him in this light, in my own way, is the highest honour I could bestow upon a portraiture subject. A double ringed nimbus nods to someone particularly divine and or glorious.
I really gave this one my all.
Thank you for your trust and your art, Dan.

Closing out 2025 and screaming ‘heyaaaa’ to 2026 whilst my left eye isolates and slowly drifts across my face like Pennywise The Dancing Clown.
This incredible shot was taken by @melaskomedia and it is a pretty good visual representation of 2025.
Last year was a biggie. Lots to be grateful for. Lots of challenges. I posted some thoughts on Patre0n and also forced myself to celebrate some wins which included:
* Being a Finalist in two Australian Art Prizes
* Participating in 7 group exhibitions including 4 overseas exhibitions in America
* Creating 9 new original artworks
* Having my art digitally published in Array 2 by @booooooom
* Performing in drag 5 times across the country (including at a SOP Gay Sauna) and at @strawberryfields_festival (thank you @bellalouche and @ravetemplerave )
* Launching and half-selling-out the largest and most ambitious Halloween Polaroid Project to date (the 5th in my 10 year opus)
* Having my art featured in @beautifulbizarremagazine
* I also published a new piece of content to Patre0n every single week - even when one (1) post was taken down for TOS (oop)
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting and or helping me make my art this year. Fuck M3ta (going 10 years strong shadowbanned to the gods) but I really do enjoy sharing my work with you.
I’ll see you this year with more things and more art x

It’s been 11 years since we saw Mother (Screamo Gaga) at The Art Rave. If she keeps this track record up the next time she graces us with her presence we both will be nearing 50.
It was time to do ‘my big one’. And my name… is Mother Mayhem.
Thank you to Lexi for taking one of my favourite collection of photos of me in drag (book them immediately). Thank you to Luke for creating this breathtaking Abracadabra look for me and making me feel absolutely indestructible for the 10+ hours I wore it for (!) Thank you to Sophie for helping (as always) with the shoot and with my bangs and for Eden for the hair wizardry and for cutting a very solid micro fringe.
This shoot happened pre-show out the front of the stadium. We basically just did an hours long meet and greet and it absolutely filled my heart with joy. So many baby queers feeling very seen and safe and very thrilled to see me. I took photos with every single family that asked me to. An honour.
Lexi was incredible and enlisted/directed the Little Monsters who appear in many of these shots. They were keen and hilarious and showered me with affirmation when the double corset started to really make herself known.
Oh, and that gaggle of disgusted little girls and their father - ACTING! GIVE ‘EM A BAFTA! That old man at the bus stop - ADORABLE! HIS WIFE DIDN’T WANT A BAR OF ME!
What a night. I met some incredible legends (looking at you @angelajb1975 and Marissa) and also Mother slayed quite hard.
The full photoset for the shoot is FREE to view on my Patre0n. You just have to chuck your email in a thing and press go. Little gift from Drag Cryptid Lord Farquad Gaga to you. Happy Holidays 🤘

Strawberry Fields Forever 🎀🍓
@dirtybirdyco_ is BACK from the sticks after performing two shows at this epic party. Honestly, I’ve never ruined so many teenager’s trips all in one go and for that we are truly blessed.
Thank you to @bellalouche for having me and to my fellow Chooks performers who are talented and hilarious and sexy. Thank you to all the team at SF for looking after the Pink Sex Clown especially Grace who took time out when we arrived in a Jucy Bus to drive us around and show us how to function. Throughout the festival we encountered/worked with around 20 Artist Liaisons including Tech, Crew and SMs and honestly every single person was incredibly lovely and kind and good at their job.
One dude drove us in the show buggy the long way round, back to camp, from our show on the last day *just* so we could Aunt Gladys as many unsuspecting, faded af party-goers as possible. Their expressions will live with me forever.
Running water and my bed are my lovers.
But better watch out next year… 🎀
Also thank you to bush angel @aftodosiac.au for this completely unprompted but welcomed photoshoot as we waited for our ride at the Artist Pickup Point. You earned that sticker, darl.
I love drag so much.
@cashdolar - That dislocated ankle is for you.
