. . This year, Nów has grown with a strong group of artists working across different media — driven by powerful imagination. One of them is Justyna Kosińska. An artist specialising in hand embroidery and a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Her work explores themes of transformation, memory of loss and the recovery of what has been lost. She is interested in processes of disappearance, erasure and absence, as well as relationships between human and non-human organisms. Motifs such as shells and exuviae become tools for reflecting on the body, maturation and femininity. She approaches embroidery as a medium that resists clear categorisation — existing between sculpture, drawing and painting. Her practice is rooted in reduction and precision, where repetition, focus and time shape both the physical and conceptual dimensions of the work. We are glad that her sensitivity and distinct voice are now part of the Nów community. Read more at: nownowerzemioslo.pl

As I was landing on Paros, I could already picture what my embroidery would look like at the artist’s residence in @cycladicarts . The winter Cyclades are silvery and mint-coloured, shimmering in the light. They are also rugged, stony and authentic. Dimitria, @dimskandali the wonderful host, and I talked about this and much more; I’m very grateful to her for that. I’ll be back. #cycladicart #justynakosińska

We are delighted to have a brave embroidery artist with us during the whole month of February 😃she dared to be here in Alyki and experience the windy and off season island and discover its winter beauty 🌊 A few words about her: Justyna Kosińska @_tkanka_ specializes in hand embroidery on fabrics. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. The main themes of her work are transformation, the memory of loss and the recovery of what has been lost. She is interested in the process of fading, erasure and absence. Embroidery appears as a universal process, both fleeting and lasting. Her works are also the result of reflection on the relationship between human and non-human organisms. A common motif is skins, molts. Her works also touch upon the issues of femininity and puberty. Kosińska attempts to elevate this form of expression from the confines of tradition and the realm of so-called “feminine” techniques, positioning it as a fully-fledged art form. In her works, traditional hand embroidery takes on an unconventional form. She creates abstract, compact structures. She abandons the limitations of format associated with hand embroidery. She goes beyond its traditional perception. She creates minimalist, large-format works on canvas and velvet. She uses monochromatic backgrounds and metallic threads. Thanks to them, the image changes depending on the angle of view. The thread becomes invisible - ambiguous shapes emerge. She lives and works in Warsaw. About her experience on the island: “I think I am in the right place at the right time. I like February in Alyki. The winter light is sharper and more changeable, full of beauty and raw energy. And at the same time, everything is blooming. There are no crowds, many taverns are closed, and the island is returning to its residents. This suits me very well and helps me — it allows me to work with focus, concentration and order. And at the same time — to observe”. Thank you Justyna 🙏💙we are very happy to have you here with us 😃🤗 Enjoy everything 🌊🍂🎋☘️🪻🌬️😃🫶
