Can’t believe I get to say that I’m one of the very lucky recipients of the NEA Fellowship in Poetry!!! To say I’m honored is an understatement & instead here’s the little paragraph they asked us to write about what the NEA means to us. ✨

Today, join us in our conversation with Su Cho, a recent winner of the Open Competition, as she explains the importance of teaching and engaging with other poets as a way to recenter yourself after a first book, as well as how to balance rich imagery with saying things plainly. @_sucho speaks with generosity and care for the way poetry can move through us and connect us in unexpected ways.

REPLICA by @lisalowpoems is officially out in the world!! If you don’t have a copy, be sure to order it from @uwiscpress ASAP. I own four copies already. 😎 I’ve had the privilege of being in the same cohort as Lisa in the MFA! Everyone will tell you she is the kindest and nicest and most talented person and that is all true. She is also hilarious and has good taste. These are some of my favorite poems with some pictures of us from over a decade ago when we were figuring out what kind of poetry life we wanted to craft for ourselves. Lisa is a role model and the epitome of what it means to work with and hold a community.

I’m excited to share the poems that make up the core of my next book in progress! It feels strange because I’ve been incubating these poems for literal years & they’re now out on their own! You can read these on @kenyonreview ‘s website & listen to me read them to you! Honored to be included in the great Visitation folio & to be in great company with my colleagues @lydiconklin & @zzpacker56 !!

Su Cho’s “The Giant Builds a House” is a many-eyed void beast stretching a hand over the window sill—looking, looking, looking, and reaching. Visit STRANGEHYMNAL.com to go camping with the Giant + stay a while at her house. 👁️🪟🏕️🌿🪨🏡

Our latest issue has several new poems by Su Cho. If you need a moment of quiet and wonder today, here's our recommendation: spend some time with these poems. All of these poems are available to listen to on our website, too. Su Cho is the author of The Symmetry of Fish (@penguinbooks , 2022), which was selected for the 2021 @national_poetry_series by Paige Lewis and featured in @nytbooks and @npr . Her work has been supported by the @neaarts and anthologized in Best American Poetry, Best New Poets, and They Rise Like a Wave: An Anthology of Asian American Women Poets. Her most recent editorial work includes serving as guest editor at @poetryfoundation . Born in South Korea and raised in Indiana, she currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee, where she is an assistant professor of creative writing at @vanderbiltu University (@vandycreativewriting ). She is working on her second poetry collection as well as an essay collection about religion, ghosts, and growing up in the Midwest. /piece/chrestomathy-fragment-2/
