JOB FINISHED?
I set out to do 1 5K a month for 2025. While this was an obvious physical challenge, it was also a profound mental challenge. Out of 12 races, I DNF’d one and was unable to make July happen. This experience has taught me a lot about giving myself grace, which is something that I struggle deeply with. I hear often “give yourself the grace you give others”. I admit I’m hard on myself, harsh even.
SO WHAT I didn’t finish a race? SO WHAT I didn’t complete July? I did every other race every other month. I did a race in the cold. I did a race in the pouring rain. I did a race before Shaiz’s soccer games. I did a race at night. All while working full time and being a full time, present and active mom. It wasn’t perfect and it wasn’t completed in the way I envisioned but YEAH. I DID THE DAMN THING.
And the greatest reward of it all? Watching SHAiZ grow in to his own little runner. After TEN 5Ks, he finally earned that title today: FIRST in his age group and 22nd OVERALL.
Parents, your kids are watching you. BE SOMEONE that if they turn out just like you, you can be proud of them!
JOB. FINISHED.
TEN years officially married. 12.07.2015 to ♾️.
I have commitment issues. The idea of being tied down to a place or a person scares the absolute shit out of me. When I met Styves, this man immediately started making forever plans and had it been up to me, we probably wouldn’t be here. I wanted to take things slow — I wanted to “see where things would go”. He said I’m not driving from MD to NJ for a booty call. I WANT YOU. Not for fun, but for life. I remember that moment. Having to decide if I wanted to take a leap of faith and take a chance on this man who might truly be my forever or operate from a place of fear. I KNEW I didn’t want to miss out on this man. He was everything I dreamed of when I thought about a husband. But, forever scared me. Styves, you’ve changed how I view commitment and the idea of forever. You are someone that makes forever feel like not enough.
I chose you 10 years ago. I choose you today. I choose you forever.
Yesterday marked ELEVEN years calling this one mine 🥰. 11 years is a LONG TIME. Below, I’ve compiled a list of 11 things I’ve done for at least 11 or more years.
1. Had the name Priya (this is fitting since my birth name isn’t Priya).
2. Been under 5’ tall (I fear this will be a forever thing).
3. Had a drivers license.
4. Driven a Toyota (I’m brand loyal…)
5. Had the same phone #.
6. Did Bharatnatyam.
7. Held the “Best Buffalo Mac & Cheese” crown.
8. A tattoo.
9. Had the same pair of leggings (I cried when my C9 track leggings ripped).
10. Friends with the GOAT of soccer, Maya Hayes.
11. Lived in NJ.
Moral of the story: most of these are not significant feats. Styves, being with you (for THIS long 😜) has been one of my greatest accomplishments. Loved you then. Love you now. I’ll love you ♾️.
