Grandad and I was trying to harvest some mangoes from his tree but we just ended up with a whole ant nest falling onto us 🥭 🌳
He made this funny harvesting tool himself and was so determined to use it so we ended up wrestling it together to get it up the tree 😂 little did we know a whole ant colony was waiting for us there 🐜

In no specific order, these are my favourite pieces from this year #pleinairpril2026 , hosted by @warriorpainters . I did 21 pieces in total, all painted from life in various locations between London and Saigon.
What a joy to come back to gouache painting after a winter break. It’s so great to continue learning more about colour theory and traditional techniques through painting from life. I feel like its a endless pit of knowledge and there’s just so much to learn. It did take a couple of paintings for my brain to fully switch back into gouache mode but once it started, its very addicting 😅

This year I was very lucky to have lots of free time without having to work, so being able to spend 2, 3 hours everyday to paint feels like such a luxury.

The first half of this month I was in London. It was the beginning of spring so I got to paint my local park blooming with flowers. Bluebells and daffodil were covering every corner of the park. I remember sitting under the trees listening to the birds, while painting the dappled sunlight hitting on the flowers and leaves.

The later half of the month I got to be home in Vietnam. I spent everyday over the last two weeks roaming the streets, then just sat down to paint while enjoying the orchestra of sound this city had to offer. So much texture and depth in every corner.
I recently finished Pomegranate Seeds by Edith Wharton and have been obsessed with her short ghost stories. Now entering my haunted era 👻

Some time ago, on one of our adventures to Hackney marshes, we found this giant tree toppled over but still growing strong. It wraps around itself creating a labyrinth of woods, with the prettiest droopy leaves hanging down from them. We made it our little picnic spot and I havent stopped thinking about it ever since 😎#
