The heat was new, the distance was new but the me was still me. Running is something I didn’t think I’d enjoy. As a kid it was fun. As a preteen it was embarrassing and as an adult it seemed outta reach or too late. The part I enjoy is the about it isn’t the PR, PB times splits better or worse. Don’t get me wrong those are great puzzles to solve in their own way. Sports and the competitive nature of them didn’t make sense to me. I’d think. Dang they seem to need it more than me.. here take it. ☺️ The part I enjoy is that it puts me in my body, makes me present and pushes my perception of difficult. Leaves me with gratitude. For my ability to move, to my family n’ friends support and the opportunity to grow. To be in community when I am away from our Sylix territories. CTRL + ALT + Create: Digital Carver Modeling Workshop completed today! So dang cool to be in a class setting with so many Indigenous students. Truly a dream for this Rez Kid. You can see my happy face seeing them there and having the support of @IM4Labs is wonderful. I want to see more of this. First 13km Trail Run Race 🙇🏽‍♀️ Stats smats! That was incredible. My first ever trail run race in the bag 🤩 TLDR I had an unfortunate accident a month ago that sidelined me pretty hard, metal bar to the mouth while snowboarding. It was an accident. The girl was young and scared. Not her fault. But it caused my fifth concussion and very bad dental damage (we are still trying to save my front teeth). I went from running 3x a week, lifting 2x week, climbing 1x and snowboarding to nothing. Literally nothing. No coping mechanisms for life. Just pure raw dog recovery. That rebuild was a very very hard Wallie-Coyote hit to a wall. Full stop. The return to activity... an incredibly humbling experience. That tested my patience, sanity and stubbornness. I have a lot of gratitude for those that we so kind and supportive during this time. 🙇🏽‍♀️ It meant a lot. Of course I pushed too hard to recover (I focused insanely hard on all avenues to heal) and nearing the race, Creator sent me a seasonal cold to cool my jets. I recovered in time to squeak in a little 5km test run, days before today’s race and I completed. I don’t think I smiled so hard for a crazy slow flat 5km. My placement and time are moot other than to say I am giddy beyond giddy to be able to have completed the trail run. Literally tears of joy in the car ride home. I’m still beaming ☺️ Movement is medicine. To be able to run in an incredible event like Run Ridge Run was thee perfect kick off! I’m hooked. So well oraganized, people soo rad and gorgeous conditions. It's been a minute since I was able to be part of an inspiring event called Shifting Forms Symposium of Indigenous Moving Image Art, held here in Vancouver, BC on the unceded lands of the XʷMƏΘKʷƏY̓ƏM (Musqueam), SḴWX̱WÚ7MESH (Squamish), AND SƏLILWƏTAꞭ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples. I am still in awe of all the insightful conversations, engaging panels, fun workshops and amazing creatives I got to meet.  It was amazing to see so much talent and support in one space. Moments like that are so important to have, we can recharge our energy and be inspired by so others in community. To bring unity and foster connections with fellow creatives and allies alike. The Solomon Islands Wayfinder characters were a unique experience to model. Getting to work on beautiful designs with such attention to detail was an honor. The cultural work that went into researching and learning more about the Solomon Islands was special and important. I got lost in working on all the details of the weaves of the skirts and complexities of the belts. Getting to research and learn more is definitely one of my favorite aspects of modeling. Though they didn’t have names when I modeled them, it was not hard to let your imagination go and think of what their journey was like paralleling Moana’s own journey.
