Still carrying the energy from yesterday’s opening of 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝘼𝙞𝙧. The evening felt less like an exhibition opening and more like a temporary gathering place, full of lovely people, conversations and shared attention. Thank you to everyone who came by during the first day of Antwerp Art Weekend @antwerpart and spent time with the works, with us, and with each other ♥ Working on this exhibition with Meggy Rustamova, Pieter Geenen @pieter.geenen , and Sirah Foighel Brutmann @sirahfoighelbrutmann & Eitan Efrat @eitanefrat , co-founders of MESSIDOR @messidorgroup , has been a real gift. The exhibition grew through dialogue, trust, and a shared sensitivity to image and memory, and it was beautiful to finally open that space together. Today is the second day of Antwerp Art Weekend and BORGER @borger_nocturnes and Out of Sight will be open from 12:00–21:00. Come by, spend time with the exhibition, bring a friend, return for a second look, or simply take a pause with us. For those who already visited: What stayed with you after leaving the exhibition? - - - 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝘼𝙞𝙧 14.05-14.06.2026 MESSIDOR Meggy Rustamova Pieter Geenen Sirah Foighel Brutmann and Eitan Efrat OUT OF SIGHT, Somersstraat 31, 2018 Antwerp - - - 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝘼𝙞𝙧 is part of the Close Encounters project. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵? In this text, 𝗗𝘂š𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗗𝗿𝗮ž𝗶ć reflects on 𝗢𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 through the conditions of geopolitical instability, shrinking civic space and growing precarity in the cultural sector. Rather than treating culture as separate from these realities, the text insists on its role as a space of solidarity, resistance and democratic engagement. Through 𝘄𝗽𝗭𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 and the artistic research of 𝗔𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗱𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗼𝘂, the project explored language, participation and conflict as sites of learning and collective transformation. What emerges is a strong proposition: that tension can become a productive force for practicing democracy and imagining more just futures. Spanning four episodes, IT RAINS DIFFERENTLY, the original script written by Dušica Dražić, Tanja Šljivar, Mirjana Dragosavljević, offers a richly layered, multi-voiced performance exploring agency, and the politics of speaking as the Forest. Combining poetic text, narrative fiction, and philosophical inquiry, this audio-drama challenges anthropocentric habits of language and knowledge. The Forest is imagined as both orator and subject—sometimes female, sometimes collective, sometimes absent. Through shifting voices and narrative fragments, the work constructs a speculative Forest Parliament, where identity and authority are continually negotiated. . Voices: Vladislava Đorđević, Željko Maksimović, Milutin Dapčević, Paul Murray Mixing and Mastering: Bojan Palikuća DOP (video): Hannes Boeck . These final episodes complete a ten-part Forest Encounters Podcast series weaving together grief, care, protest, and imagination. Listen now & tune into the plurality of the forest. 🌍🍃 . The podcast is produced by Out of Sight in partnership with the Igor Zabel Association and Graz University of Technology. . Co-funded by the European Union and Flanders — State of the Art. The views and opinions expressed are those of the authors only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union. NEWS! Dušica Dražić will soon begin a two-year research project at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp / @research_royalacademyantwerp Starting this September, she will work on ‘Constructed Landscape. Contemporary Forms of Social Realism’ within the Art & Ecology research group. The project explores a (hu)man-made forest in Yugoslavia, created over ten years through collective volunteer labour. It asks how the ecological and ideological processes behind this forest can help us understand the contemporary and contradictory world we inhabit today, and what new imaginaries might emerge from it. It also addresses the question of authorship and the autonomy of the artwork, exploring how art can contribute to the common good while coexisting with aesthetics, and resisting the privatization of culture and nature. Dušica Dražić is an artist and independent curator. She explores the interrelations of place and its users, rethinking them at the level of cultural continuity, symbolic irregularities, and individual actions. She is interested in methods of knowledge production related to social, political, and aesthetic changes in (public) space. Dušica Dražić co-founded @out___of___sight in Antwerp in 2018, dedicated to experimental practices. @_out.of.sight_ @research_royalacademyantwerp @royalacademyantwerp image 1: ‘Constructed Landscape’, Archive photo, 1970’s, © Milutin Dražić image 2: portrait © Remont (Belgrade) #royalacademyantwerp #artandresearchantwerp #researchroyalacademyantwerp #artandresearch #artandecology #dusicadrazic #newresearchproject

…Through us fly Birds in silence. Oh, I, who long to grow, I look outward, and the tree within me grows. (August 1914, Rainer Maria Rilke) Had it not been for the encounters and the reforestation on Pešter, I wouldn’t have met Dušica, nor Ibis. I wouldn’t have sat in a silence that is not emptiness, but a space quietly brimming with presence. I wouldn’t have written with light, nor listened to the whisper of plants. Because of that meeting, we arrived in Antwerp – into a forest inside a gallery, into a world where language is made of leaves, light becomes a thought, and silence – a form of resistance. Two days in a forest of language and shadow. Two days moving with the rhythm of plants, in deep attention, quiet breath, and cyan-blue imprints of sunlight. I did what I love – with those I love. I sank into language, into forest, into the soul of plants. Into a silence that does not hide, but reveals. Into a world not explained – but dreamed. In a silence that is not absence, but presence, we listen to the spaces where images, words, colors, and light-born traces begin to rise. My deepest thanks to the most gracious and attentive hosts @_out.of.sight_ @forest_encounters @wimmmj @out___of___sight @ratkorakin whose warmth shaped the very air we breathed. I await what lies ahead with eager heart and open hands. 💚 And to my dear Ibis, my steadfast companion – for the trust that blossoms quietly and the tenderness that lingers like a gentle light. 🌾

IT RAINS DIFFERENTLY is a portrait of a forest as a fictional character. In August 2024, a reenactment of the reforestations took place on the Pešter plateau. Volunteers once again gathered—not only to plant a new forest, but to take part in the collective making of the work. The FOREST ENCOUNTERS presents: Pine Seedlings by Ibis Ćerimagić are cyanotype prints made on the final day of the reforestation week, developed on site in the Uvac River. Rather than documenting the reforestation directly, the work resonates as a quiet echo of it—a pause between gesture and growth. Perhaps the ground will hold memory in its roots. . Writer, poet, and literary theorist Jelena Vukićević moves through the confluence of inner stillness, reflective thought, and an imagination attuned to the subtle resistance of language—its quiet refusal to be merely functional. For this occasion, Jelena shares poems and texts that emerged in and around the forest. . A series of documentary drawings by Siniša Ilić traces the reforestation process and the making of the film. His work evokes the tradition of landscape painters. Yet, these drawings lean toward abstraction, transforming into documents of performative and labour actions. . Based on the original scenario written by Tanja Šljivar, Mirjana Dragosavljević, and Dušica Dražić, and drawing on historical reforestation protocols, Monika Lang illustrated six flags. Serving both as a signal and a symbol, the flags guided the collective effort of reforestations. The exhibition also includes a dream sequence from It Rains Differently, the film-in-progress by Dušica Dražić. . FOREST ENCOUNTERS exhibition 29.05-29.06.2025 Out of Sight, Somersstraat 31, 2018 Antwerpen . The exhibition is part of the Forest Encounters project (2023–2025), co-funded by the European Union, Flanders – State of the Art, and the Austrian Cultural Forum Brussels.
