Moritz Engel

Rove is the ultimate tool for the remote wilderness, designed to redefine our relationship with power. This off-grid smartphone features a pull-cord system: one minute of pulling spins a flywheel to generate twenty minutes of battery life via an axial flux generator. The cord doubles as a versatile carrying strap, while the outer spool housing integrates a tactile control wheel for various functions. Built from anodized aluminum with glove-friendly buttons and a recycled polycarbonate shell, Rove blends durability with total energy independence. This is a fun project, I did during the summer break. I found this mirror broken on the street and saw potential to repair it. I designed a custom 3d-printed frame, that safely covers the fracture and embraces the new shape.

For this project, ECAL student Moritz Engel collaborated with ZURIGA. The Swiss brand is known for its high-quality espresso machines manufactured in Zurich. From one of these machines, Moritz has now created an alter ego. His design turns the familiar upside down by highlighting the joyful and emotional side of the espresso machine as a tool. The machine will be auctioned at the ECAL XMAS Market on 18.12. More info on ecal.ch. Für dieses Projekt arbeitete der ECAL-Student Moritz Engel mit ZURIGA zusammen. Die Schweizer Marke, ist bekannt für ihre hochwertigen, in Zürich gefertigten Espressomaschinen. Aus einer dieser Maschinen hat Moritz jetzt ein Alter Ego erschaffen. Sein Design stellt das Vertraute auf den Kopf, indem es die freudvolle und emotionale Seite der Espressomaschine als Werkzeug hervorhebt. Die Maschine wird am 18.12 am ECAL XMAS Market versteigert. [3/3] TWIST | PROTOTYPES Twist is a stool with a big focus on sustainability. The goal was to design a material efficient, easy-to-manufacture and flat-packable stool that requires no adhesives or screws for assembly. For this, 3 wedges are used. This allows the stool to be made from just one material: wood. The parts are made from a 1.25 m x 2.50 m CNC-milled birch plywood board, on which parts for a total of 13 stools fit. The stool is already manufactured in a first small production series. The design was optimized in an extensive prototyping process with many scale and full sized models.
