A Christmas gift for you!
In October we gathered at Wax Bar to hear band members read their creative writing aloud. We heard poetry, prose and an excerpt of a screenplay. This writing exists separate to the artists’ musical output; some of it had never been shared before. We recorded it all. You can hear it here. We were joined by author Adelle Stripe (Black Teeth and a Brilliant Smile, Base Notes: The Scents of a Life) who spoke with Amy McCarthy about writing, creative process and building your own scene.
It was Oscar’s idea to record everything, and I’m so glad we have. The atmosphere on these evenings is one of fizzing excitement, nerves and energy that is hard to fully recall in retrospect. It becomes a sensory blur, and I question the magic of it all. Being able to listen back to it feels important because otherwise I might doubt that it even happened. I’ve always liked the idea of this page and this work being to document specific moments in a specific scene, getting at the interconnections beneath it all. I hope you enjoy it. Link in bio. X
