Whenever I enter or leave my apartment, I face this beautiful picture taken by @alessandra_sanguinetti in 2003. The image portrays a Palestinian child named Hadil living in the Aida refugee camp in occupied West Bank. I see so much hope and sadness in her eyes— looking toward the light from a window. I wonder if she is still alive. These are difficult days. I find it nearly impossible to think of anything other than the people of Gaza who have lost their children, parents, relatives, homes, and rights due to the brutal occupation and genocide committed by Israel since October 7 and the 75 years before that. I’m finding it hard to teach, often speaking around this blatant disaster for fear of losing my job. So many of us are being silenced and censored under the guise of “antisemitism” — this is completely shameful. Of course I condemn the killing of all innocent civilians, Israeli and Palestinian alike. I thought our job as educators was to help build an equitable future— something that is only possible if we illuminate the ways images and words are manipulated by systems of oppression. It is more and more obvious that these institutions are afraid because they know we hold the power to alter the course of history. I haven’t found a clear solution to this sadness and anger other than to feel it fully. Free Palestine, end the genocide, end the occupation, end the apartheid. 🇵🇸

I don’t quite have the words— it feels surreal to announce the release of my first monograph, To Know You, Now and Then. The making of this book has been a true labor of love over the last few years, and I feel lucky to have the support of wonderful friends and mentors along the way. To my parents, Carla and Stephen: this is for you. ❤️ You can order the book now from @smogpress — the link is in my bio. Much love to everyone who has made this real. 🤍✨

I’m excited to share that my new short film, Silent Rooms, is included in Labocine’s January issue: ARCHIVES. There are so many wonderful films in this issue; it’s an honor to be part of it. The link is in my bio. “ARCHIVES opens the year by delving into the layers cinema leaves behind. This Issue gathers films that engage directly with existing material—found footage, family recordings, scientific logs, forgotten reels, reclaimed fragments, or entirely reimagined remnants. Whether through preservation, reinterpretation, decoding, or radical transformation, these works question how memory is constructed, erased, or invented on screen.” Thank you to @labocine @sciencenewwave for including me 🖤 #labocinearchives

In the springtime we would go for walks in the countryside.”
