Pillion is a darkly funny, intimate queer romance written and directed by Harry Lighton (@hlighton ) in his feature debut. Adapted from Adam Mars-Jones’ novella Box Hill, it follows a shy, directionless man who is drawn into a transformative relationship with a charismatic biker. Harry Melling brings a nervous vulnerability to Colin, while Emmy winner Alexander Skarsgård plays Ray with a physical presence that dominates the frame. That dynamic becomes the engine of the film, and the sound team sits right at the heart of how it is experienced. sound designer, re-recording mixer, supervising sound editor Gunnar Óskarsson and re-recording mixer, supervising sound editor Christopher Wilson oversee the design and mix, with production sound mixer Adam Fletcher (@afsounduk ) capturing the performances and environment on set, building a foundation that feels grounded and lived-in from the outset.

“The old adage of ‘writing is rewriting’ is very true, and the cutting room is another rewrite. Learning the software and the tech is important, but knowing only the technical side will lead you to be just a pair of hands for a director or producer. And executing the technical side is just table stakes; that’s the minimum for an editor. If you understand drama, writing and story structure, you’ll have a stronger understanding of the material and the potential of a given scene, beat or sequence.“
