Punjabi culture overly suppresses anything to do with mental health and American culture (to me) overly identifies with it. so I stopped saying better days are coming and instead just live in the one I’m having—

These photographs document moments at the @audrelordeproject (ALP), a New York City–based community organizing center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two-Spirit, Trans and Gender Non Conforming People of Color.
Taken across several years, this work captures different parts of that space: protests, workshops, healing sessions, and moments of celebration. I hoped to capture the feeling of collective care, interdependence, and presence.
Whenever I am blessed with the opportunity to document one of these events, I feel like I get to see a glimpse of the world that is possible and not the feel the doom of the one forecasted. I love how intergenerational these spaces are as well! In a time of people continuing to “niche down” every facet of life, it fills my heart to see. 💗
Thank you Audre.
