I scored Lawrence Abu Hamdan’s new film “450XL: The Story of a Fugitive Sound” which debuted last week in Venice! The film documents the Serbian government’s use of a sonic weapon on a crowd of 300,000 silent protestors on March 15, 2025. Across 15 screens (!) that resemble protest signs, Lawrence mixes witness testimony and documentary footage of the protest to examine the physical, emotional, and political effects that resulted from the weapon’s use. (The Serbian government still denies it happened.) As with most of Lawrence’s work, it’s a pretty powerful piece that does even more powerful political work. First image is static but the last one is a video to give you a sense of the sound and moving image. The work was included in @fondazioneinbetweenartfilm ‘s exquisite and much talked about “Canicula” exhibition. Thanks to @lawrenceabuhamdan and @earshot.ngo for bringing me onboard for this incredible work and for the curators @leonardobigazzi and @alessandro.rabottini for making it happen. Alas, if you’re not in Venice, there are future plans for the work including a live score in London in the Fall at the Barbican!

WOW! Incredibly honored to be named a Guggenheim Fellow! Truly stunned and beyond grateful for this recognition. It feels amazing to be seen and included alongside such an outstanding class of artists, scientists, writers, and thinkers who also received fellowships this year. This award will support a major new project and I look forward to sharing more news on that soon! Thank you @guggfellows ! #guggfellows2026

I have some new work up in London at LUmkA gallery (their first show since moving to London!). These works are titled “Rock You” (after the infamous password dictionary/hack) and I’ll let you discover the treasures that await if you plug your phone into the sculptures! The exhibition is titled Privacy Index and is up for another week. It’s organized in collaboration with Big Brother UK, Electronic Frontier Foundation and No2ID. Also, for the exhibition catalog, Ben Kudler and I did an interview with Julia Scher under our group name Radical Democracy. Images (and a flip through of the catalogue) in slides 3-5 if you want to peruse! Ruby Chen, Nicholas Cheveldave, Miles Scharff, Linx Peng, and Ivo Nagel are also in the show with some incredible works. Big thanks to Cortney and LUmkA for making this happen. @l_u_m_k_a @cortneylconnolly @bigbrotherwatchhq @efforg @ruby.ch3n @mjsmiles99 @linx.cw @ivocnagel @nicholas.cheveldave @radical_democracy_online @securitybyjuliascher

A compilation of Paul Sepuya’s early 2000s zine SHOOT is now out via @primaryinformation ! All seven, scarce issues are collected here including inserts. I remember when these hit the tables at printed matter back in the day and everyone who worked there couldn’t stop talking about them and Paul’s wonderful eye and their resonance with the deep history of portraiture. I think everyone who worked there ended up buying copies, myself included (see my original Shoot no 1 on the second slide). Available via PI’s website now and in stores in the next few weeks!

Happy to have worked with @josephgrigely on this new show-stopper of a book for Primary Information. Over 400 pages (and 4 decades) of Joseph’s incisive writings, lectures, interviews, and documentation tracing ableism and issues of accessibility in media and culture writ large. From his brilliant series of postcards addressed to Sophie Calle, where he began to formulate a theory on the intersection of disability and art, to his epic lecture “On Failure,” which brings together the poet Keats, “the first woman of fly tying” Helen Shaw, and the filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky to the same table for a conversation on beauty, Grigely’s writing is erudite, but clear; righteous with fury, but dryly humorous. Get it now via @primaryinformation ! Will be available in store and various online conglomerates on Feb 17.

Old school pic of me browsing concrete poetry publications at the legendary Sackner Collection in Miami ca 2013! The collection had 80,000 works of visual poetry and writing. Was a complete luxury to sift through it for a few days. This was right before I published a facsimile of “An Anthology of Concrete Poetry” with @primaryinformation . It was also where I began my research into female concrete poets. This eventually took me to Switzerland where I met @designingwriting and later commissioned him and @m_de_la_t to edit PI’s “Women in Concrete Poetry.” Lastly, it’s where I first saw the work of NH Pritchard! What a resource this collection was. After the passing of Ruth and Marvin Sackner, it was moved to the University of Iowa. Pic by @highenergyobjects

50 Today! Kind of into getting older tbh and I feel lucky to be surrounded by great friends, family, and books (lotsa books). Thanks to @glennligon for keeping a smile on my face every day of the year! In a society dominated by youth culture, aging feels like a rebellious and experimental act. Smile every chance you can my friends 🥂

Honored to have had a hand in getting this book out into the world alongside Garrett Bradley! For those who know, you know how special this book is and for those that don’t, I’m happy for you to discover its haunting beauty. Originally published in 1978 and long out of print, The Harlem Book of the Dead collects James Van Der Zee’s funerary photographs from throughout the first half of the 20th century and pairs them with poetry by Owen Dodson and an interview by Camille Billops (the editor and mastermind of the book)! Also included is the original introduction by Toni Morrison and a vital afterword by Dr. Karla FC Holloway (author of the essential “Passed On”)! Out today via @primaryinformation !
