✨ Now on view in Los Angeles: “Eames House: Impressions of Light,” featuring a new site-specific installation by James Clar, through May 16, 2026.
Installed within the Studio of the Eames House, the exhibition considers Charles and Ray Eames’ home as a living prism—shaped by light, reflection, and texture. Drawing from the Eameses’ photography and film “House: After Five Years of Living” (1955), alongside a new, site-responsive installation by James Clar, the presentation reveals light and landscape as active collaborators in the making of place.
Clar’s monumental cyanotype banners, created using the Studio itself as a lens, transform hours of shifting sunlight into immersive fields of blue, positioning the house not as a fixed structure, but as an evolving condition.

"Many of the most pleasant things about the house are things on which we had not planned, but which came one by one as surprises. The difference between the shapes of things in sunlight, twilight, and at night, and the little things that happen in relation to the trees and shadows." — Charles Eames

"The Shape of Silence"
RF Foam is a special material that lines the walls and ceiling of an anechoic chamber run by the Philippine Space Agency. During site visits and research the agency showed me how the room creates a special environment where light and sound are absorbed by the wall, to recreate the effect of signals emitted in the vacuum of space.
"The Shape of Silence" shows an electro-magnetic signal being absorbed into the walls of the chamber to visualize silence.

We are delighted to announce the representation of James Clar in the Middle East and North Africa , the latest addition to our roster of international artists!đź’«
Born in 1979, the Filipino-American artist explores the conceptual and narrative possibilities of light and technology—systems that have become integral to our daily lives, shaping how we receive information, communicate, and perceive the world around us. Through his practice, Clar examines how media and technology influence our understanding of culture, nationality, and identity, using light as both material and metaphor.
From 2006 until 2012 James’ studio was based in Dubai where he became an active participant in the developing arts and culture scene, working with Traffic gallery and Carbon 12. From 2012 till 2020 he moved back to New York working with Jane Lombard gallery, and in 2021 relocated back to his native Philippines to work with Silverlens gallery within the Asian region.

Taking a ride with my best friend, 2019
Car door, controlled laser, generative pattern
The work explores how thought and daydreaming might be given structure, how memory and perception coalesce into states of consciousness. An old car door serves as both object and metaphor, evoking nostalgia for a past time and the experience of riding in the passenger seat, gazing outward as the world drifts by. Across the window, a morphing geometric form of light hovers and shifts, translating the ephemeral processes of thought into visual form. This interplay between metal and light, memory and motion, situates the work between the psychological and perceptual, where the external landscape becomes intertwined with interior states of reflection.
