"Diagram of Lightning (When The Sky Touches The Ground)" 2026 180 meters custom-made neon, steel scaffolding structure, concrete blocks stacked in pyramid shape. 16 m H × 26 m L x 16 m W Diagram of Lightning is a monumental light sculpture that captures the form of a lightning strike recreated in neon light and suspended within a modular grid of scaffolding. The scaffolding acts as a structural and conceptual frame: the human-made structure encasing the unpredictable form of nature. The grid breaks down the lightning’s organic path into discrete geometric units, like spatial pixels, echoing how we quantize natural phenomena through technology. At the base, pyramidal forms made from stacked bricks anchor the installation. These pyramids represent the fractal geometries of L-System algorithms. The same generative principles used to simulate natural growth and branching, making the base of the structure a representation of how the lightning on top was formed. ---------------------------- Noor Riyadh 2025 now on view till December 6th! @noorriyadhfestival @riyadhartofficial Curators: Li Zhenhua (Curator) @lzhenhua Sara Almutlaq (Curator) @sara.endipity Mami Kataoka (Curatorial Advisory Lead) @mami_kataoka_2018 Artwork Concept, Direction, Composition : James Clar Producers: Alex Czetwertynski @alexczetwertynski Nicolas Wierinck @nicolas_wierinck Commission: Noor Riyadh Acknowledgment: Neon fabrication by Art Project France @art_project.pro Produced by That Right There @that.right.there Jane Lombard Gallery @janelombardgallery Lawrie Shabibi Gallery @lawrieshabibi Silverlens Gallery @silverlensgallery Noor Riyadh 2025 is organized by Riyadh Art, under the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) © 2025 JAMES CLAR. Opening this week: Eames House: Impressions of Light The exhibition transforms the iconic Eames House Studio into a living prism—exploring light, reflection, and texture through rarely seen photography and film by Charles and Ray Eames, alongside a new site-responsive installation by Filipino-American artist James Clar (@_james_clar ). Clar’s monumental cyanotype banners, created using natural sunlight filtered through the Studio’s façade and produced on traditional Philippine jusi fabric, return to the space where they were conceived, revealing an impression of the house’s grid at a 1:1 scale. His installation marks the first time in more than fifty years that a contemporary artist has actively worked within the Studio, activating it once more as a place of experimentation. Featuring sixteen archival photographs and the Eameses’ 1955 film House: After Five Years of Living, the exhibition frames the Eames House as an evolving condition rather than a fixed structure, always in dialogue with light, landscape, and acts of living. On view February 28 – May 16 Exhibition admission included with all tours and visits to the Eames House. ✨ Now on view in Los Angeles: “Eames House: Impressions of Light,” featuring a new site-specific installation by James Clar, through May 16, 2026. Installed within the Studio of the Eames House, the exhibition considers Charles and Ray Eames’ home as a living prism—shaped by light, reflection, and texture. Drawing from the Eameses’ photography and film “House: After Five Years of Living” (1955), alongside a new, site-responsive installation by James Clar, the presentation reveals light and landscape as active collaborators in the making of place. Clar’s monumental cyanotype banners, created using the Studio itself as a lens, transform hours of shifting sunlight into immersive fields of blue, positioning the house not as a fixed structure, but as an evolving condition. 🗓️ February 28–May 16, 2026 📍 203 Chautaugua Blvd, Pacific Palisades, CA #EamesHouse #CharlesAndRayEames #JamesClar #OnView #LosAngeles

Eames House: Impressions of Light February 28 - May 16, 2026 Photographs and Film by Charles and Ray Eames Artwork by James Clar "Many of the most pleasant things about the house are things on which we had not planned, but which came one by one as surprises. The difference between the shapes of things in sunlight, twilight, and at night, and the little things that happen in relation to the trees and shadows." — Charles Eames Preview: Saturday, Feb. 28 Public Opening: Wednesday, March 4 @eamesfoundation

"The Shape of Silence" RF Foam is a special material that lines the walls and ceiling of an anechoic chamber run by the Philippine Space Agency. During site visits and research the agency showed me how the room creates a special environment where light and sound are absorbed by the wall, to recreate the effect of signals emitted in the vacuum of space. "The Shape of Silence" shows an electro-magnetic signal being absorbed into the walls of the chamber to visualize silence. -- On with @silverlensgallery At @artfairph

We are delighted to announce the representation of James Clar in the Middle East and North Africa , the latest addition to our roster of international artists!💫 Born in 1979, the Filipino-American artist explores the conceptual and narrative possibilities of light and technology—systems that have become integral to our daily lives, shaping how we receive information, communicate, and perceive the world around us. Through his practice, Clar examines how media and technology influence our understanding of culture, nationality, and identity, using light as both material and metaphor. From 2006 until 2012 James’ studio was based in Dubai where he became an active participant in the developing arts and culture scene, working with Traffic gallery and Carbon 12. From 2012 till 2020 he moved back to New York working with Jane Lombard gallery, and in 2021 relocated back to his native Philippines to work with Silverlens gallery within the Asian region. 🔗 Read more about James Clar on our website Artwork shown: 2. Taking a ride with my best friend, 2019 Car door, controlled laser, generative pattern The work explores how thought and daydreaming might be given structure, how memory and perception coalesce into states of consciousness. An old car door serves as both object and metaphor, evoking nostalgia for a past time and the experience of riding in the passenger seat, gazing outward as the world drifts by. Across the window, a morphing geometric form of light hovers and shifts, translating the ephemeral processes of thought into visual form. This interplay between metal and light, memory and motion, situates the work between the psychological and perceptual, where the external landscape becomes intertwined with interior states of reflection.
