Patsy (He/They)
Patsy is an anti-binary DJ, event producer, and creative based in Brooklyn NY. As a reference to the country music heroine Patsy Cline, Patsy’s moniker plays with the juxtaposition of the artist’s conservative upbringing in the mountains of SW Virginia vs their queer experience and existence in NYC today. This mixing of cultures, genres and styles is the creative pillar of everything Patsy does, running with the motto “always eclectic, but never random”. Patsy has produced and performed a menagerie of different projects, ranging from guest radio spots on NTS and 8Ball Radio, to live spatial audio performances and various forms of visual design work. Patsy though is most commonly found at, and known for, their various events and performances at the queer punk venue Purgatory in Bushwick Brooklyn.
Notes on the Mix ///
“The heart behind this mix really boils down to exploring the idea of what “rave music at the punk bar, and punk music at the rave” sounds like. It feels like I’ve been playing with that idea my entire career, especially with the parties and events I throw at my home venue/bar Purgatory, but I approach the idea with more intention here. The mix features some OG punk/alt tracks from acts like Coil, Crass, and Gina X, along with newer voices like La Neve, woven together with a slew of different rave and dance floor sounds to keep the energy moving. The recording is a portion of a set I played for a small group of friends in a cabin in rural Pennsylvania. My time slot was just past peak hours, a time I love as it can cover both high energy party moments along with the more abstract and bubbly sounds of a late night / early morning floor. My intention as a DJ is always to play with and bend the lines between genre boundaries, and in that regard, I’m really happy with where this mix ended up.”
