 ~ Marasa is a 3 piece indie Aus band, formed in a removed outpost of Sydney’s Northern Beaches. We’d turned our sharehouse into a makeshift studio, recording live to tape with our friend and engineer Lee McDonald. These sounds are from Cicada Dusk, a vintage flavoured earworm shaped by early ‘60s surf rock and doo-wop. Treble-y guitars laced over jazz inspired chords, drenched in silvery reverb melting into a sunset over the sea. Big love to @brendaniclark for the bass performance on this one! annual trip down to point plomer, lotta love for this crew, we weathered 80mm of rain and big winds camping, but it never dampened the spirits. Still had a blast, lucky to score some great waves & sights w a few nose rides and nose dives in the mix 😆💚🌈

Hey friends ✨ so the past few years I’ve been learning to write, record & produce music. Experimenting with different styles, I’ve been open to how each piece evolves. Mostly it’s landing in the realms of meditative, psychedelic, dreamy & uplifting. Today I’m releasing a track under my solo artist alias ~ volar aspect, titled natures dance. It’s part of a series of works to come. This one was inspired by a year spent living in a rainforest cabin in the Byron hinterlands, capturing the rhythm and stillness of that time. Had the pleasure of playing a part in a track for Samara (@___who.am.u ) who’s idea formed around creating a collection inspired by the power of sound and texture to communicate ideas and stories. Each musician added their own parts by layer that evolved into a track which Samara would later translate into shape, texture and colour. It was fun working on this. As it landed with me, I enjoyed spending time outdoors thinking in tones and textures for qualities i could subtly add to the track to support the core ideas within it. In the end I played alto sax as a supporting call and response to the flute, some percussion that felt like it was swaying in the breeze, and recorded small waves washing over pebbles and rocks at the oceans edge. All sounds i was experiencing at the time as I was listening to it. First few photos are when I was playing around with ideas on sax, then moments from when I was listening to it as I was wandering around, sampling sounds of nature, running water and the ocean. The last photo is of Samara’s collection ‘𝑰’𝒎 𝑺𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒓𝒖𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈’ being debuted at @fdsfashiondesignstudio 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 show for @ausfashionweek this week, as performed by 3 out of 6 of us debuting the track live supporting the collections release. I’ve not typically posted much in the way of music I’m making on here, as when I do have time I tend to get into writing / playing itself. Though I am keen to start sharing more, even if it’s covers or little jams whilst I’m cookin up something good 😎 Here’s a little snippet of something I’ve been working on lately 👀 despite having a leg injury and not being able to surf for a few weeks now, on the flip side it’s been nice taking more time out to slow down and create. Especially on those rainy cabin days 🌧️🏡

Little edit from my recent trip in lombokkkkkk 🌏🕺🏼 Had such a blast on a retreat hosted by @facingblankpages learning how to cross step with the master @tedi_hardware + learning from the experienced indo crew @gilligipong @tequilaisnotmyfriend @deeka_cang @surfwithdamar @fedorovdmitry and more… Made many new friends on the trip who’d travelled across the globe to be there. Up at 4:30am most days and on the water before sunrise 🌅 learnt so much about long boarding and improved so much each and every day! So thankful to have learnt from everyone who ran the trip that hold so much local water knowledge and all absolutely rip. It was flat for weeks prior to this, and we were super lucky to get a solid swell hit on the first day. hit my goal to have nailed 5s and 10s comfortably by the end of the trip some of which are in the vids yehewww 😎👣 and had a rad time doing it! thanks to everyone there who all made it such a fun time from dawn to dusk.
